The One Where You've Been Pining Over Bestfriend!Denki Kaminari.

“I’ve been hit with cupid’s arrow.”

With eyebrows raised, you look up from where you were sitting in the library to look at your best friend Denki Kaminari.

“You say that every time you see a girl.”

“I mean it this time, she’s so beautiful.”

“No, you’re just horny.”

You look around the library to see who he was talking about, however, the only other girl here was Ibara Shiozaki. Of course, he was talking about her, she’s beautiful, pretty, and cool, whereas you’re a mediocre-looking nerd. She was everything you weren’t.

You look back down to your book and frowned as you flipped the page. You wanted Denki to see you like he saw other girls.

You wanted him to see you with want and love. You wanted him to see how you were the one who stayed with him even when other people called him dunce-face or idiot. You wanted him to see that you loved him irrevocably, while other girls didn’t.

You were the one who loved him for him despite his flaws and faults, but he always chased after other ‘pretty’ girls.

“She’s really smart too.”

Your frown deepens as you toss your books into your bag. Smart? You always felt that he never wanted you because you weren’t a pretty girl. Smart? You always had that going for yourself.

“If you’re so in love, then ask her out.”

You walk away from Denki but he grabs your wrist before you reach the library door.

“Don’t you wanna know who I’m talking about?”

“Who?”

You bite your lip as you try to keep the tears in. Couldn’t he see how in love you were? Couldn’t he see how it hurt you when he talked about other girls?

“It’s you!”

It felt like the world was playing a sick joke on you. Why would he say preposterous? So absurd? He couldn’t possibly love you. You were just you.

“That’s a mean joke.”

“It’s not a joke.”

You turn your face to Denki, eyes full of tears.

“But I’m just me. I don’t have a flashy quirk, and I’m not pretty like other girls. I’m very mediocre, and that’s an exaggeration.”

Denki cups your cheeks and pulls your face closer to his.

“You are pretty, but you’re also smart, compassionate, nice, and fun. I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone except you. All jokes set aside? I fell in love with my best friend.”
