This generation has lost the true meaning of romance.

According to Webster's dictionary, to romance is "to try to influence or curry favor with especially by lavishing personal attention, gifts, or flattery." Today when we look at our society, we often misinterpret what is the true meaning of romance. In the bible romance have no reference, but love has many references. Agape and Phileo are two types of love.

As Christians we should treat romance differently than what the world tells us about it. The world may tell us that romance must have to do with lovers, with romantic movies, with husband and wives, foreplay, kiss, petting, hugging,sex but in reality romance means a zealous emotional attachment or involvement between people; a love affair. We may fantasize all day about our crushes, our suitors, boyfriends and girlfriends and think that "Oh, I'm romantically in love and attached with him, with her" or say "I'm so attracted to him, to her, I think I'm going to like that chick, that boy". We should never ever forget who is the person who taught us how to love. The most romantic guy in the world is the one who shed blood and sacrifice himself for our sins and he died on the cross--- it's Jesus. True romance is rooted in God. That love is called an agape love, unconditional,true, sacrificial and everlasting-- "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16).

On the other hand, phileo is a "Brotherly love", God commanded us to love one another, that's the essence of brotherly love. In this type of love we expect that our love will be reciprocated by another, we wanted to be love just as how we love others but sad to say we can't beg people to love us. We are governed by this two types of love. In terms of romance, agape love is the best. We should manifest agape love to one another,. In a man and a woman, romance is an evidence that love exist. A man gives love to the woman, a woman gives love to the man. Some situations may be like, the woman is more in love with the man and the man is more in love than the woman but the truth is, every love should be symbiotic, give and take.. but sad to say we are not contented for what our spouses, our boyfriend and girlfriend gives us. When true agape love is rooted in one another, true romance will magnify with that love and two heads will act as one.

This generation was influenced so much with worldly ideas of what romance truly is. Look upon that cross, remember whom you hung there, remember that holy man you nailed in with a hammer. He is your true romance, he does not love only through words but he prove it in his actions. So, love is not just a feeling, it requires action. He sacrificed his life for all, he is our saving grace, the true romance we should seek first, the true romance that is worthy of praise, glory and honor--- Jesus. Are you zealous for God? build a love affair with him today.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, you alone is my true romance. I am deeply touched to know that your love for me is unconditional, how fool I am to nail you on that cross, you save a wrecked like me. Lord sorry for everything that I have done, i was so wrong. Thank you for showing me what true love means. You come into me, draw me closer Lord, captivate me. Amen.
