Lisa didn't wait a single second in rushing down the hall to the bedroom so she can try and explain everything that had happened only a moment ago.
Her heart was shattered as she realized just how horribly she'd spoken to you.
But as much as her own heart hurt, she knew she'd made yours hurt even more as she heard the sound of your cries coming from the other side of the door.
She raised her hand to knock but slowly lowered it a few seconds later.
She closed her eyes and let out a heavy breath.
She sank to the floor and tangled her fingers in her hair while you cried and she attempted to think of what to say.
But only a couple of minutes later, before she got the chance to fully think of what to say to you, the bedroom door opened.
She turned her head to look at you, your eyes meeting hers.
"Baby," she sighed and stood up. "Can we talk?"
"Sure, we definitely need to." You said. "But I want to talk first and I want you to listen, really listen."
She nodded and followed you into the bedroom, taking a seat on the edge of the bed as you run your fingers through your hair.
"Everything you said to me down there was not just mean but unfair, too. Lisa, I have been your biggest supporter and cheerleader from the day we got together. I love you so much and I want nothing more than to see you succeed every day, as you deserve. I know how hard you and the girls work and I know that things change sometimes. I know it's out of your hands. For you to say that I need to try and be more understanding of things is not cool of you!"
She didn't even look away. The entire time you spoke, her eyes stayed locked with yours and she listened intently to every word that you said.
"I know."
It was the only thing she said and it seemed like the only appropriate thing to say at that moment, as you still had things to say.
"Then you say I'm annoying! What did I do to deserve that? Remind you of all the times you told me you have to reschedule because things come up? You know how much I worry about annoying people."
She nodded.
"And you know how much I love and care about you. Why would you ever say such things to me?"
"Because I had a bad day and, trust me, baby - I know that is no excuse. I don't know why I said anything that I spoke back there. I didn't mean any of it. I was just stressed and I felt bad for having to tell you that I couldn't go because things came up and it just went the complete opposite of what I wanted."
She put her arms out for you to walk into and it took you a few seconds to do so, but you gave in to the need you felt of wanting to be wrapped in them again, now that you were both finally being heard.
"I'm so ashamed of the things I said. I know that you're my biggest supporter and I know that you're so understanding of everything I go through, despite not being in my shoes. You're the most wonderful girl. You're always here for me and I know that I have to back out of things a little, sometimes at the last minute, and I know it's not easy on you. Me saying that you need to try and be more understanding is the stupidest thing I've ever said because there's no one more understanding than you are."
"I try."
"I know and you're amazing."
"I know." You chuckled and watched as a smile tugged at her lips.
"So, how about that vacation? Do you still feel up for it? Or did I mess up too badly?"
"I want to go. As long as you promise to never speak to me that way again and that we never fight in front of our friends again."
"That's a promise I'll keep for sure. I promise." She smiled and kissed your cheek softly.
"If you want, you can tell me about everything that's stressing you out. I'll listen."
"That's a sweet offer but I'm okay. For right now, I just want to cuddle with my girl and do some packing later. In a couple of hours, the girls and I will be speaking to the company and making it clear that I'm taking a few days off to go out with my girl."
"Are you sure they'll be okay with it?"
She shook her head with a giggle before smirking at you as she brushed her hand across the small of your back.
"What will they do if they aren't, sweet girl? Fire me?"
You laughed and pecked her lips, happy that everything was better now.
