she's cold

You quietly opened the door to your shared room with Lisa. You were trying to be quiet so you wouldn't wake her up because after the night she had last night, she really needs her sleep.

She's come down with some type of stomach bug. One that had her on her knees last night with tears streaming down her face as she emptied her stomach until there was nothing left.

She seems to be feeling a little better now. She's been sleeping for the last couple of hours, but her fever still seemed to be high. You could tell as you gently press your hand to her forehead.

The soft brush of your fingers woke her up. She groaned quietly and curled up into herself a little when she felt that terrible ache in her stomach. She started to shiver so you pulled the blanket up around her but she still seemed to be cold, even when it was up to her shoulders.

"Oh, Lisa, baby. Do you need another blanket?"

She weakly shrugged her shoulders and you started to brush her hair behind her ear. You could tell she was miserable and it was hard to see her like that. You wished you could take it away from her. You'd do whatever it took to make it all disappear and to see that pretty smile back on her face.

"What can I do? Tell me what you need to make you feel better." You whispered as you brushed some hair from her face, your fingers brushing across her clammy skin. "Can you lay with me? I'm cold and I need you."

That was all you needed to hear. You went to your side of the bed and slipped under the covers beside her. She moved into your arms and you wrapped them tightly around her. Your fingertips brushed along the warm skin of her back. She whimpered into your shoulder, feeling completely miserable.

"You're gonna be alright, Lisa. I'm here with you."

You made sure the blanket was still wrapped around her and within a few minutes, she was starting to warm up a little. Her shoulders were no longer shaking and she seemed to be a little calmer.

Her warm and slightly shaky breath fanned against your shoulder. You could tell she was falling asleep and thanks to the comfort you provided her, she felt like she could sleep peacefully now.

"Are you alright? Feeling any warmer?"

She nodded tiredly. "Yeah, thanks to you holding me."

You smiled down at her. "It's what I'm here for, lovely. Now close your eyes. I'll be holding you close even as you sleep."

"You'll be here when I wake up?" She asked.

"Of course. I'll be right here. Now sleep. You need it."

She started to drift off. Her breath still fanned against your skin, but you didn't care. You didn't worry about catching what she had, you just wanted her to feel better.

"I love you. Sweet dreams, Lisa." You mumbled and kissed her.

You thought hse had already fallen asleep so it took you by surprise when she whispered back to you. "I love you too, y/n."
