waking her up after a nightmare

It felt like you could hardly breathe as you sat up in bed. The flashbacks of the terrible nightmare replaying in your mind made the terror and dread you felt just moments ago continue to linger.

You put your hand on your chest and closed your eyes, trying to take a few deep breaths to try and catch your breath and slow the fast pace of your heartbeat. You suddenly needed Lisa; you needed to make sure she was okay because the nightmare had left you fearing that she wasn't.

"Lisa? Lisa?" You whispered and felt around on the bed for her. Relief washed over you when your hand fell on her back that rose and fell steadily as she breathed softly. Although it wasn't exactly your intention, you couldn't help but feel comforted when she awoke to your soft but shaky touch.

"Y/n?"

She rubbed the sleep from her eyes to get a better look at you. "Is everything okay?"

"Y-Yeah." You stuttered and Lisa could see right through your lie. "I had a nightmare."

"Oh..." She put her arm around you and pulled you between her legs. "Wanna talk about it?"

You shrugged and laid your head down on her chest. The sound of her heartbeat was soothing you. "It was really awful. I really don't wanna talk about it but I just had to make sure you were okay, I was scared that you weren't."

Lisa shushed you softly. "I'm just fine, y/n, and so are you. Whatever happened was only a dream, just a really bad dream. But it's gonna be alright. I'm here, I'm right here, and we're both safe."

You nodded and soon the feeling of dread and fear was replaced by a feeling of security and reassurance.

With Lisa's arms wrapped around you and the sound of her heartbeat in your ear, you felt like everything was gonna be okay and the flashbacks soon faded to the back of your mind and eventually went away.

"You okay?" Lisa wondered after a few minutes of silence passed by. She looked down at you and pressed a lingering kiss to your forehead. "Yeah, I'm okay."

She slowly laid back and your head fell right to her chest. "I've got you, baby. It's all gonna be alright." She promised and continued to lay kisses against your forehead and whisper words of comfort in your ear.

You yawned as sleep caught back up with you and thanks to the comfort of Lisa's arms, you felt safe enough to fall back asleep.

"I love you, y/n. You can go back to sleep. It's gonna be just fine, I'm right here to keep you safe." She peppered a few kisses to your forehead and watched as you fell back asleep, happy that you felt safe enough with her to fall back asleep after the terrible nightmare that you had.
