Within the next couple of weeks, Kiera began to stress that Christmas was coming as well as the dire need to get back to work, but Simon wouldn't let her exceed her limits as she endured the healing process.
But just like Simon, she was stubborn - which created conflict.
Every other night, Kiera began showing signs of night terrors, causing her to lash out in her sleep at practically nothing, Simon keeping her close once she calmed down. Once she began walking on her own, she began to get a harder personality than others, recoiling back to her comfort of wanting to intake alcohol more frequently and keeping herself distant. Simon took notice of this rather quickly - recognizing it as his own behavior that he portrayed when coming home from a deployment.
But Kiera never lashed out at him. She resigned her behavior to him although she had been distant - wanting to seek that familiar comfort of their relationship by being around him when she needed it most.
It was a Saturday - which was a day the ranch usually worked cattle in the pen to prepare for an evening sale. Kiera had gotten up early that morning with high hopes of participating, but she knew better. She managed to get up on her own without Simon's help, which was a big step in the healing process, although she couldn't fathom the thought of looking at herself in the mirror, afraid of the reflection. The swelling in her eye had gone down, giving her the comfort of seeing out of her right eye again, leaving a dark bruise with yellow edges as well as a sure-to-be scar on her cheek, leaving her to forever guess what had caused it.
Simon was still asleep, having been awake throughout most of the night as he suffered night terrors of his own, but Kiera let him sleep in as he had been going out of his way to ensure her comfort before his own.
She winced in pain as she moved slowly throughout the house, her wool socks keeping the cold floor from nipping at her toes as she moved into the kitchen, her mouth salivating at the thought of hot coffee for both her and Simon, looking down at her phone as she sent a text:

Looking at the clock above the stove, it read a quarter past seven a.m., which was late for Simon to be sleeping, but she knew he deserved it, so she did her best to sneak out of the bed that morning.
