"Are you sure you don't want me to go with you?" Simon asked hesitantly as their plane had finally landed in Cody, Wyoming.
"I'm sure, babe. I'll get a rental car while we're waiting on my mom to get here. It's only a four-hour drive there and back. I'll spend the night and head home in the morning. I wish I could just have her meet me at the house, but if she meant what she said on the phone, I'd rather go out of my way to keep our children safe." Kiera explained with a sigh.
"I don't like this, love." Simon shook his head.
She scoffed, "Yeah? And you think I do? I'd rather be going home to our ranch and see our kids that we haven't seen in over a week but instead I'm having to report for unofficial business."
"I know. Just promise me you'll call me when you get there and when you're coming home."
"I will. I'll stay with you until mom gets here so I can see the kids and we'll get something to eat."
Once Kiera and Simon laid eyes on her mom's vehicle, they immediately rushed towards her with excitement to lay eyes on their children. Even though they had been gone for right at two weeks, it still felt like an eternity. "Momma!" Baler exclaimed from the passenger seat, letting himself out of the SUV to engulf Kiera around her waist.
"Hey, baby!" She smiled, holding him close as she ran her fingers through his curly hair. "Have you gotten taller?"
"I better be!"
"I'm sure. Has your ego healed since Johnny picked you up from school?" She teased.
"No, but it will once you take me to school again."
"Well, Simon will have to take you to school tomorrow. I have to meet Kate in Jackson Hole."
"I-I thought she was from Butte?" He asked, confused, still pronouncing the Montana town as butt.
"She has an office in Jackson Hole." Kiera corrected with a laugh at Baler's pronunciation.
"So, you're not coming with us now?"
"No, I'll be coming home tomorrow afternoon. Simon will be coming home with you today so he can take you to school in the morning-"
"I have to work tomorrow, love. He'll ride the bus." Simon huffed.
"Well, I guess you'll have to ride the bus tomorrow and I'll take you to school when I get back." She assured him, smiling at him before she moved to hug her mother who had just engulfed Simon into an embrace of her own.
"Oh, sweetheart! I'm so happy to see you!" Eva smiled, kissing Kiera on the cheek before tightening her arms around her daughter. "How was the honeymoon?"
