"todays training exercise was astrids idea, so i'm going to let her explain it." hiccup tells us as he nods to astrid before coming to stand next to me. everyone but be and hiccup groan an her training exercises are usually really hard.

"what?" she looks around at everyone

"your training exercises are so hard!" fishlegs moans, and astrid furrows her eyebrows

"they are not!" she defends herself.

"hand to claw combat?" he holds up his bandaged hand. meatlug licks him

"spine dodging?" snotlout continues

"hot lava swimming?" tuffnut finishes. i move behind him and slap the back of his head, causing his helmet to fall forwards.

"we never did that." astrid deadpans

"yeah, but we should've" he retorts, rubbing the bridge of his nose. i move back next to hiccup.

"look. you just have to make it from this beach on the east side to this cave on the west side. at night, with no camping gear and no dragons" she tells us. everyone groans again.

"shutup guys." i scold everyone. they all do.

"go get ready guys. meet here at dusk" astrid tells us and we nod. me and hiccup walk off together as our houses are really close as my dad is stoicks second in command

"i wonder why everyone hates astrid's training exercises. they are really good for learning to defend ourselves" i say, looking over at him. he shrugs.

"i don't know. i think it's because they prefer letting their dragons do all the work." he smiles at me. i grin back

"lazy sots" i tut. he laughs

"true" we keep walking.

"hiccup?"

"yeah?"

"can you tell me why everyone listens to me when i tell them to do something?"

"its cos' you're scary" he chuckles. i gasp in mock offense

"i am not!"

"you kinda are. not to me though" he grins wickedly

"whatever" i pretend pout, crossing my arms

"well, lets go do this. do you need me to sharpen your sword?"

"hmm, maybe. or should i bring my bow?" i bite my lip.

"the rules are you can only bring one. i say bring the bow this time" he shrugs. i nod

"okay. i'll oil it and make sure i have enough arrows. how many d'you think i'll need?"

"don't ask me, you're the only freehand archer here" i mosck scowl at him

"not helpful. i suppose as many as i can fit in my quiver." he nods. there are two types of archers, crossbow and freehand. freehand is much harder, but when done properly can be much more effective. we make it to his house, and i bid him goodbye. i go back into my house, seeing my dad making some food

"hey dad, there is a training exercise on dragon island tonight. can i go?" i ask him. he looks at me

"depends, who else is going?"

"the whole gang. except north of course" north is on bedrest because she broke her leg when she fell of her dragon nighteye

"very well. tell hiccup i said hi, would ya?" i nod and kiss his cheek
