so in this, celise (pronounced selese) is hiccup's daughter. she is severely autistic. astrid left when celise was 3, as she didn't want the baggage of an autistic daughter.
hiccup is 33, celise is 12
hiccup's p.o.v
i stand outsde the school, waiting for celise. she goes to a special school for kids with learning disabilities. i see her running out, so i hold my arms out and catch her under the arms swinging her up. she clamps her legs around my waists.
"daddy!" she yells delightedly, giving the little giggle that always warms me up.
"hello my special girl! did you have a good day?"
"daddy" she giggles again. i kiss her cheek and she snuggles into my neck. daddy is pretty much the only word she can confidently say. i see the teacher walking up, so i wait.
"are you celise's father?" he asks after he stops about 7 feet away.
"yes. is everything okay?" he hesitates.
"she had a breakdown today. she was screaming and throwing things. we had to pin her down." i narrow my eyes
"what exactly caused this?"
"the other kids were picking on her. she seemed to miss you, and everytime she was asked anything, she would only say the word 'daddy'. the other kids assumed you had a daddy kink, or something. we tried to explain, but they kept throwing things and she lost it"
"and i wasn't called why?"
"we didn't see it necassary" i clutch her closer, and she buries her head deeper into my neck, as she deeply inhales. i know that she is smelling me, it always calms her down when she's getting upset.
"okay, i'm going to say this once, and once only. if this happens again, i am to be called. no matter the time of day. i don't care if i'm working, i don't care where i am or what i am doing, if anything like this is to happen agaib and i am not called, i will be in contact with the board of education. understand?" he gulps a little.
"yes sir. we will make a note of this"
"thank you." the man walks away.
"home?" i coo at her. she cheers, making me chuckle. i carry her to the car and buckle her in, before getting in myself and driving home. she babbles the whole time, i obviously can't understand what she's saying, but i get the gist of what she means. i know it was too hard for astrid to keep up with her. she wanted a daughter who would be her best friend, she wanted a daughter she could gossip with, do her makeup with, go shopping with, but when she was rushed to the er because she had a siezure and it was discovered she had a very rare form of autism known as Childhood Disintergrative Disorder, astrid knew she couldn't cope, so she left in the middle of the night leaving only a note explaining why she left. she calls in every now and again, just to check up on her. speaking of which, not long after we get home, i get the same call.
"hey astrid" i say plainly to my ex wife. the divorce was finalised years ago.
"um... hey hiccup. how is she?" she asks me quietly. i roll my eyes.
"yeah, she's okay."
"still having the seizures?"
"yeah. they aren't as common as they were, and they aren't doing her any damage. she started school a few weeks ago"
"really? can she speak yet?"
"no. she can still only say daddy. the other kids have been picking on her, but she's staying strong. what about you? still having fun eith eret in the bahamas?"
