Listen to the song as you read. You don't have to, but it is kinda relevant to the chapter.

Hiccup's mother is dying.

Hiccup is 26, south is 26, chaos is 7

Hiccup's p.o.v

"Hey babe" South says, wrapping her arms around my stomach. I smile.
"Afternoon, m'lady" she kisses my shoulder.
"What're you up to?" She asks. I shrug
"Just some drawing." She looks over my shoulder at it.
"Wow, this is amazing"
"Thank you, m'lady" she's about to say something else when my phone rings. I grab it, seeing an unknown number
"Hello?" I ask when I connect the call
"Good afternoon, am I speaking to hiccup haddock?"
"This is him"
"Hi, I'm calling as you are the son of Valka haddock, whom has just been admitted to our last life ward" I freeze
"L-last life?"
"Yes sir."
"Oh..." I drop the phone. South frowns and picks it up

Souths p.o.v

"To whom am I speaking?" I ask over hiccup's phone
"Are you mr haddocks wife?"
"Yes. Why did my husband just drop his phone?"
"I just informed him his mother has been admitted to the last life ward?" My hearts drops. That's the ward I work on, the one that patients that are dying are admitted to.
"And you couldn't have been more tactful? My lord." I hang up his phone.
"Oh, baby." I coo. Hiccup gently rests his cheek against my rounded stomach, breathing hard.
"I've only known her a few weeks... she doesn't even know about you or chaos...why is fate so cruel?" He murmurs.
"I don't know, my love. I really don't."
"I need to go there... who knows how long she has..."
"I'm coming with you. Just give me ten minutes to get chaos ready" he nods numbly and stands, pressing a kiss to my hair before walking to our bedroom.
"Chaos, hun" I say, walking into his bedroom. He's playing with some cars
"Hey mommy" he says in a half arsed voice.
"Chaos, can you put that down for a moment?" He nods and sets the car aside, looking up at me. I pick him up and sit on his bed, setting him in my lap.
"We're going to see someone soon. We'll be seeing your daddy's mommy"
"But... daddy doesn't have a mommy" he says, confused. I nod
"Everyone has a mommy, bud. Your daddy just hasn't seen his mommy in a long time. He only met her a few weeks ago."
"Ooh, Okay! Is she nice?"
"From what I've heard, yes. You need to be nice, and gentle. You see, do you remember our lovely cat, windwalker?" He's instantly confused, remembering my beloved feline who passed away a year ago
"You said windwalker died and went into the sky..."
"That's right. Your daddy's mommy is going there soon. She's sick, buddy. And your daddy is going to be very sad, so you need to be very good these next few weeks. Can you do that for me?"
"Okay..."
"Good boy. Now c'mon, we need to get ready" he nods. I help him dress into his clothes (he still has issues with his jeans) before I take him through. Hiccup is sat on the sofa, shoes and coat on. I put chaos' shoes on, then my own
"Ready?" I ask hiccup gently. He nods
"Yeah, I'm ready."

Hiccup's p.o.v

Walking into thy ward was surreal, at best. I'd been there many times, given it's where my wife works, but I never thought I'd be visiting my own mother there. I find her in a bed, my dad next to her.
"Dad?"
"Son! I'm glad you came" he says, standing up. My mom looks at me curiously
"Hiccup? Who's this?"
"Mom, this is my wife, south. And my son, Chaos" I say. South shakes her hand
"It's nice to meet you Valka" my mom smiles
"And you, my dear. You are an absolute stunner. If I were 20 years younger and a lesbian..." South giggles
"Mom!" I protest. My mom just laughs. Chaos is clutching my leg shyly.
"It's okay, buddy" I say, picking him up with ease and setting him on my hip. My mom wordlessly holds her arms out, so I set my little boy on the bed next to her. She gently hugs him, and he hugs her, too. He grasps not to say anything about her situation, instead babbling to her about dragons, just like his father. I talk quietly with my dad, until the nurse walks in. She looks sad, and she's wheeling in a tray with some paperwork and what looks like a cup of juice, but I know is actually the drink that will end my mother's life.
"Are you ready, Mrs haddock?" The nurse asks. My mom nods.
"Yeah." I was told soon after I got here that my mom is really, really sick with no chance of making it, and this was the only way to go peacefully.
"I'll give you a moment to say goodbye." She nods. I sit next to her, Chaos on my lap. South sits next to me, her hand in my knee. My dad is opposite us
"Mom..." I whisper, feeling my heart crack.
"It's okay, my boy. You take care of that girl of yours, and the little one, Okay?"
"I will... don't forget about us, okay?"
"I won't. I'll haunt you all" I choke out a laugh through my tears
"You better" she turns to my dad
"It's okay to cry, stoick. By gods, I'm going to miss you. I'm sorry I was gone for so long. I'm glad I got at least a few weeks with you" I wrap my arm around south, not wanting to imagine if it were her in that bad. Chaos looks up at me
"Dads, what's happening?"
"You'll see soon, buddy" I whisper brokenly. He reaches up and wipes a tear from my face, and I kiss his head.
"The drink will take only 30 seconds, maybe less. You will feel no pain, it will be as if you are going to sleep, okay?" The nurse hands the drink to her. She nods
"Alright. Bottoms up" she knocks back the drink.
"Mom, keep looking at me. Don't be afraid, it's going to be okay" I reach out and take her hand. She smiles lightly
"I love you, hiccup. I'm sorry for putting you through. This. I'm going to be alright" flicker. I see the life drain out of them, before she is staring sightlessly at me. I let out a sob and gently reach over, closing her eyes,
"Sleep well, mom. I love you" I whisper, ghosting a kiss on her forehead. My dad lets out a choked cry
"Oh valka... it was too soon" he mourns her. I can tell South is also crying as she rests her arm around me. I clutch to her, trying to seek her comforting aura. I look back at my mom. She still looks stunning, still rosy cheeked. I reach down and pull her listless body against Me, wishing she would wrap her arm around me and tell me one more time that she loved me, and that everything was going to be okay, but she won't. She can't.
"I'm sorry, mom" I whimper.
"Daddy, what's wrong? Why won't she wake up?" Chaos asks. I release my mom and look over at him. He's migrated from my lap to souths.
"She isn't gonna wake up, buddy... she's gone" I whisper.
"She's not gone, she's right there" I choke on a sob.
"I know, but she isn't here, bud. Her soul, this bit" I gently touch his chest "has gone up to heaven, to be with the gods. They're gonna look after her until me and my daddy get there"
"You're not going too, are you?" He asks worriedly
"Not for a long while, buddy." I look back at my mother, and entry pull the blanket over her head. The action makes the reality of the situation hit and it takes everything in me not to collapse and cry right there. We leave the cubicle, nodding to the nurse.
"I'm sorry for your loss. We will be in contact soon" she says. I just nod. We leave the hospital.
"Dad, do you want to come back with us?" I ask. He shakes his head
"No, son. I need to be alone right now. I'll talk to you soon" he whispers, kissing my head. He hasn't done that since I was young. The drive home is short, and the second we get inside, I collapse onto the kitchen floor in a fit of tears.

Souths p.o.v

"Hiccup!" I gasp as my husband kneels down into his hands and knees, sobbing. I pull him against me, running my fingers through his hair. Chaos crawls on top of him, and hiccup holds him tight.
"Don't worry daddy, grandma isn't really gone. She's right here" He gently taps his fathers chest, enticing a new wave of sobs
"I know buddy..." he chokes, wiping his face.
"I know"

I didn't cry when writing this. Not at all.
