some context. south and hiccup were dating when south disappeared 6 months before. nobody knew where she went or if she was even alive. hiccup was depressed, and still is.

hiccup is 15

hiccup's p.o.v

i watch the ocean hitting the sea stacks, deep in thought. toothless mewls next to me.

"i'm okay, bud" i say, though im not really convincing anyone.

"no, you're not" i hear astrid say from behind me. i shrug as she sits next to me.

"hiccup, everyone knows you miss south, but it's been six months. maybe you should..." i laugh scornfully.

"what, move on? move on from the one person who believed in me when no one else did? the one person that didn't push me around or hit me? move on from the love of my life? fat chance of that" i spit. astrid sighs.

"hiccup... i'm sorry. you're right. we did push you around. but you have to have hope that she's out there, somewhere, waiting for the right time to come home."

"but what if she isn't? what if she's dead?" i say bitterly. she reaches out and grips my wrist, making me hiss and pull back. i nurse it for a second, before letting it rest in my lap. astrid looks shocked and scared.

"hiccup, you haven't-"

"that has nothing to do with you, astrid. just go" she hesitates.

"GO!" i shout. she stands up and runs away. i stay here for a while more, until i hear thornado land behind me.

"i know why you're here" i say to y dad. he pauses.

"astrid went to you and told you, didn't she?"

"aye. hiccup... can you show me your arm, please?" he asks me, sitting down in the place astrid occupied before. toothless has his head in my lap. i don't move arms from on his head, so my dad takes my hand in his and pulls up my sleeve, revealing the angry red lines, and the really bad one from when i tried to end it.

"why didn't you tell me, son?" my dad asks me sadly.

"because you were going through the same, if not worse. i have no rights to be upset, i'm just so weak" i grit my teeth.

"no lad. not weak. you're grieving. you miss her, hell, we all do. but this isn't going to bring her back, is it? hurting yourself isn't going to help. it'll only put you in detriment. i lost your mother. i can't lose you as well" he says. i sigh.

"i'm sorry. i just need to be alone. c'mon bud" i pull my hand out of my dads and stand, mounting toothless and flying home.

time skip to when hiccup arrives at outcast island.

i'm dragged off the ship while toothless is carted off in a different direction. a few people move out of the way, and once the way is clear, what see makes my heart stop.

it's south. she looks just the same, except she has this... glint in her eyes.

"ah, daddy. you got him" she smiles at Alvin, who chuckles leerily back at her.

"bhiccup, i do believe you've met my daughter, south? she told me you wee quite close... shame she saw sense and joined me here instead of staying with her weak willed mother" my eyes tear up.

"south... no..." i croak. she gives me a hard stare.

"someone gag him. i tire of his voice" she snaps, and then i'm gagged. i'm locked up, and south is stood outside, guarding my cell.
