so just to be clear, in this hiccup and south are NOT in a romantic relationship. they don't see each other that way.
hiccup is 13, south is 17
south's p.o.v
i sigh as i clutch my coat closer around me it's raining heavily and i'm finally leaving my school for the day after a long study session. it's about 6 o clock and i'm the only person around. however, i prove myself wrong on that point as i walk out the front gates and hear some quiet cying over the rain. i look up from my phone to see a boy. i've seen him before. he's in year 8 and gets picked on alot. he's in only a shirt and trousers, shivering and crying. i quickly jog up to him, stripping off my coat.
"are you okay? what are you doing out here?" i ask him, raising my voice slightly over the rain. he looks up, his hair is dipping wet.
"leave me alone" he says sadly. i wrap my coat around him. he tries to take it off.
"no, kid, you're gonna catch a cold. why are you out here in this rain" his eyes are watery
"m-my dad hasn't come to get me." he says, his voice a little thick.
"come back with me. i'll get you some warm clothes and a hot drink." i say. he just nod. he's been out here a while, so i also take off my hat and gloves, giving them to him.
"i-i don't want you to get cold" he says.
"i'm fine. you need them more" he nods and puts them on. i keep my had on his shoulder as we get to the bus stop. the bus comes quick. i scan my card and buy him a ticket. we sit together at the back of the bus.
"why didn't your dad come for you?" i ask him. he looks down.
"he doesn't like me. i'm not the son he wanted."
"what about your mother?"
"never knew her. she was kidnapped when i was a baby." i wrap my arm around his shoulders. he leans against me.
"i'm sorry. if it makes you feel any better, i have no parents. i live alone" i say. he looks up at me.
"i'm sorry too" i then gasp
"oh, i forgot, what's your name?"
"h-hiccup"
"nice to meet you hiccup. i'm south"
"cool name" he mumbles i chuckle
"yeah, it's pretty odd. but so's yours, so we have that in common" he gives me a shy smile. we get to the stop and get off, walking to my apartment. we get in pretty quick, and i sit him down on the sofa. i grab him out some clothes and hand them to him. he goes to get changed while i make some tea. he comes back as i'm on the sofa on my phone.
"thank you for helping me" he says, taking the tea into his small hands.
"it's okay. nobody did the same for me, so i had to do everything alone. i couldn't let anyone else suffer that" i gently rub his arm up and down. he sips his drink.
"sorry" he murmurs. i tilt my head.
"what for?"
"burdening you. i'll leave soon, so i'll be out of your hair" i sigh and gently cradle his cheek in my palm.
"you're not burdening me, it's nice to have someone around here. anyway, i can't let you out in this storm, you'll get sick." i say. he blushes slightly.
"b-but-" i shake my head..
"no, kid, you can stay here tonight. i don't want you out in that storm" he places his drink down and leans over, hugging me. i stiffen in surprise, before wrapping my arms back around him, too"
