hiccup's p.o.v
"get him!" i hear snotlout shout from behind me. I quickly take off sprinting down the hall of my school, gripping the strap to my bag. i hear their approaching footsteps, but my knowledge of secret hideouts and my extreme experience in running way has me hiding under the stairs.
"this way!" i hear tuffnut holler, and their feet thunder up the stairs, just a foot above my head. i let out a shaky sigh of relief and begin heading the way i had been going in the first place- the music department. it's my safe haven. my dad would always call me names, calling me weak and a fairy for my love of playing the violin. the moment I open the double doors, the most beautiful sound hits me. i freeze as the doors close softly behind me, i'm entranced by the music. soft yet melancholy piano music floats through the air, and i can't help but walk over to see who's playing it. I peak int the window that looks into the room with he piano, and there, on the bench, is sat a girl with waist length blonde hair. I watch her as she plays, and soon the song becomes recognizable, and I smile when I see (or hear) that it's called christofori's dream, a classic piano piece. she finishes the song and just sits there, her fingers hovering over the keys. I slowly open the door.
"that was beautiful" I say lightly. she turns her head so I an see the left side of her face. I don't think i'e ever seen her before
"thank you." I am almost floored by her accent. it's adorably British.
"what grade are you?" I ask her. her face still does not fully turn, so I can't see her very well.
"i just finished my grade 8. i have no more exams now, so I just play for fun instead of to get my grade" she shrugs.
"i see." is all i can really say. she smiles lightly
"hey, turn around so i can see your face" i lean against the wall. she turns back so her back is facing me
"you don't want me to do that" she says darkly.
"i'm pretty sure i do." I can't keep the humour from my voice. she sighs and turns around and i'm rendered speechless. she is relatively plain looking, with a few freckles, bright grey eyes and small but plump lips. but that's not what's got me.
it's the large scar running down her right eye, going from her mid forehead to the middle of her cheek.
"see?" she huffs. i bite my lip.
"if i was to say anything about your scar, i'd be a very big hypocrite." i tell her. she cocks her head.
"how so?" I spin round and gingerly lift up the back of my shirt, revealing part of my back which is ravaged with scars. then I turn around and lift up my pant leg, revealing my prosthetic
"holy shit... how did that happen?" she asks. I take a seat in front of her
"i used to live in a war torn part of Norway named berk. me, my mother and my father were at home when a bomb was dropped near our house. my mother was killed, my leg and back were blasted to bits while my dad was relatively okay. me and my dad immigrated here when i was 14." I explain to her. she listens and nods.
"that must have been very hard. I am sorry that happened to you" she gives me a wan smile. I grin bak.
"I told you my story. now you tell me yours" I say gently.
"well, about a year ago, I was dragged into an alley in the middle of the night. he man stared pulling at my clothes. I fought him off, until he got out a knife. i pushed him back but he lunged at me, getting my down my face. ti escaped but collapsed in the middle of the road. I was lucky I escaped with my life" she looks away at the end of her story.
