i have nothing to say here
hiccup is 16. modern.
i get home from school like i do every other day, slinging my backpack off my shoulders and onto the floor.
"son? can you come here?" i hear my dad's voice from the dining room. i frown and walks through, seeing my dad sat at the table with his hands clasped. he only does this whn he has something very important to say.
"have a seat son. i need to talk to you" i furrow my eyebrows but do as told, sliding into the seat across from him. my dad is the CEO of a large chain of factories that make all sorts of things.
"me and mr grimborn have discussed possible joinings of our companies, and have agreed that our companies should unite through marriage" i frown deeper, not knowing where he's going with this.
"so we have reached the decision that you and mr grimborns daughter, south, are to be married next month." he concludes. my eyes widen
"y-you can't be serious." i laugh, as if expecting him to say it was a joke. he doesnt.
"this is no joke. you are to marry his daughter" he says firmly. i stop my laughter
"what the hell? it's 2019, not 1819! is that even legal?" i shot. my dad stays calm
"yes. it is fully legal. you have no say in this. you can get a divorce when you turn 18, but for now this is the agreement. we are going to mr grimborns house tomorrow and you will meet her." he says, growing slightly angry.
"was i ever even your son? or just a means to a paycheck? d'you know what don't answer that. i already know the answer" i sprint off to my bedroom, slamming to door and collapsing into tears. i take out my phone and blearily text my friend astrid.
astrid, i don't know what to do
hiccup? what's going on?
my dad is making me get married to some girl i don't even know
is that legal?!?!?!
apparantly. we can get divorced when i'm 18, but that's still 3 years away. i'm meeting her tomorrow
i so so so so wish i could help you. that's awful. i'm so sorry. try to stay tough okay? if this girl is screwed up, i'll knock her out for you
thanks astrid. you're my best friend
of course. hang in there hiccup; i'm here if you need me
i put my phone down and sigh, tears streaming down my face. i'll just have to get through this.
the next day.
my dad knocks on the door of this large house, and it is opened by a maid.
"mr grimborn! the haddock's are here!" the woman announces loudly, stepping aside for a tall (but not as tall as my dad), stern looking man with a large scar running all down the left side of his face.
"ah! stoick. this must be your boy, hiccup" he holds out his hand to me. i gingerly take it. he shakes my hand before turning to stoick.
"south is just upstairs, in her room. she knows of the agreement. linette, would you take him up?" the maid nods, walking away. i follow her until we stop outside a door with a simple wooden plank that says 'south' on it. when the maid walks away, i take a shaky breath and knock quietly. i hear an equally quiet 'come in' so i open the door. there is a girl sat on the bed, her back to me.
"um... hello" i say, not knowing anything else to say, really. she turns around. she has rib length brown hair, fiar skin and large grey eyes.
"you must be hiccup. i'm south" she stands up and walks to me, shaking my hand. she leads me to sit next to her on the bed after closing the door and locking this.
