TRIGGER WARNING- relationship abuse. hiccup in this acts the way he does because astrid has manipulated his way of thinking, and she has basically beat him into submission. hiccup pushes his friends and family away because she has convinced him they don't love him as much as she does, not because he's an idiot in love.

hiccup's p.o.v

i watch the new student interacting with everyone else. her name is south grimborn. everyone loves her. she's the bouncy, bright, kind, funny, cute and absolutely stunning british girl. she just has this... ability to make anyone smile, even mr mildew the math teacher, who is famed for being the moodiest man on the face of the planet.

"stop looking at her" astrid barks, snapping me out of my trance. i blink and shake my head.
"y-yes astrid. sorry" i quickly apologise

"hmm. do it again, and you know what happens" she points her fork at me, making me flinch.

"y-yes" i look down and continue eating the food i have been allowed to have. astrid controls everything i do. what i eat, where i go, how i dress, what i watch, my hobbies and everything. i have to ask her permission to even take a walk down to the park. the only contacts im allowed to have on my phone are my dad and her. i have no friends, because she told me that they don't know me like she does, and they can't respect me how she does. i mean, i know she does all this because she loves me, and she's trying to make me a better person.

"thank you for reminding me, astrid" i smile at her. she smiles back.

"of course. you know i'm hard on you because i love you like no one else could" she says. i nod.

"yes. i must be better" i remind myself.

"and i will help you" she grips my hand, making me smile again. i finish my food and it's time to head to my biology class. astrid has spanish, so she kisses my lips and heads off. i walk in and take my seat.

"class, since we have a new student, i am rearranging the partners" the class groans.

"i know, i know" but when south walks in, everyone is eager to have her as their partner. me? i couldn't care about any girl, one because i'm not allowed to, and two because astrid is all i have, need and want. mr mulch goes through the pairs.

"hiccup haddock and south grimborn" south sits next to me.

"hey! i'm south" she says cheerfully. i simply lift my hand in silent greeting.

"are you okay?" she asks me. mr mulch has given the partners 10 minutes to get to know one another better. i simply nod. i'm not allowed to speak to girls when astrid hasn't given me permission, so i stay silent like i am supposed to. once the ten minutes is up (we both spent it in an awkward silence), mr mulch goes on to explain the project. i write it down. once the bell goes, south gives me her number and everyone leaves, i go to mr mulch.

"mr mulch, can i get a new partner?" i ask. he frowns.

"why? i've been told that south grimborn is one of the best people to work with."

"i dont feel comfortable having a girl at my house, or going to a girls house"

"sorry, hiccup. i can't change the partners"

"ugh!" i storm out, slamming the door behind me. i go to astrids class, where she is waiting, looking angry. she grabs my hand and digs her nails into my skin, making me wince
