heres some context. hiccup is a police officer, and rescued a little girl (lily, though hiccup's nickname for her is bluejay). he's a police officer. lily had been abused for years, and had never been outside. she ran away, and hiccup found her.

hiccup is 30

i adjust the blue uniform shirt as i walk down the street on patrol. my partner has taken the car, so i'm forced to do foot patrol, setting me in a bit of a sour mood. i take out my personal phone and text south, as i'm bored and have nothing else to really do as this whole street is clear.

hey love

don't text and drive

i'm not driving! i'm on foot patrol, and really bored.

hmm. where are you?

just off fury street.

wow... what a crime filled area. i laugh, knowing full well that this area is filled with rich, respected citizens.

i should get back to work. i love you.

i love you too. i put my phone away, and keep walking. suddenly, a little girl stumbles around the corner. i'm shocked at the sight of her. she's wearing a shirt at least 7 sizes too big and it's covered in dirt. she has no pants, but the shirt comes to her knees. she's skinny and her skin is smudged with dirt. her blonde hair- at least i think it's blonde- is matted, dirty and greasy. she's not even wearing any socks or shoes. she goes to run past me, but i catch her.

"woah, woah, hey! are you alright, little one?" i ask, holding her shoulders and kneeling down in front of her. her sparkling blue eyes are filled with fear and exitement.

"i'm okay" she says. her voice is quiet, and rough from what is obvious lack of use.

"no, no, i need you to come with me, sweetie" i say. she looks confused.

"why, mister? i'm finally outside!" she says excitedly.

"finally? have you been outside before?"

"no, mister! mommy said the outside world would hate me, but mommy is mean so i came out anyway... you're not gonna take me back to momma, are you?" my heart breaks for her.

"no, little one. i'll take you to a safe place." she nods. i radio my partner

"ingermann, i need you to come to my location. i've got a young girl, maybe six? clear abuse victim, underweight."

"copy" soon enough, fishlegs pulls up. i guide the little girl into the back seat and tell fishlegs to continue the foot patrol. he nods and walks away.

"little one, do you know your address?"

"yes mister! 12 fury lane" she says proudly. i put my sirens on and head there, pulling up outside. i knock on the front door. a woman opens it, and it takes me no time at all to recognise the woman stood in front of me looking bored as astrid hofferson, one of my bullies from high school.

"astrid hofferson?" i ask. she chews the inside of her mouth. she looks immaculate, her hair in its braid, her face caked in 7 pounds of makeup.

"hiccup haddock. always wondered what happened to you. looks like you became the city's bottom feeder" she looks me up and down distastefully. i resist the urge to roll my eyes as i'm on the job.

"ma'am, i need to speak with you about your daughter" i say. she rolls her eyes.

"she's in bed. nothing up with her" she says, but lets me inside. i see snotlout on the couch in a wife beater tank and boxers, holding a beer.
