so this is new. dw, south isn't underage by English standards as least. I don't know about American though.

hiccup is 21, south is 17.

in July, I was given the chance to work as a drama teacher in a school in England. I'm from a small island off the coast of Norway so I can only hope all goes well. I'm sat in the room on the provided computer when my sixth form class comes in. this class is mostly full of friendly looking teens. I catch the eye of a girl who has long brown hair with her bangs covering her right eye, making her flick her head intermittently. she walks up to me with a large smile. she gives a thumbs up before tapping her two shoulders. my eyes follow her hands as I know she is speaking sign language. she says "good morning sir. my name is south." I smile at her and sign back "hello south. I'm Mr haddock. I look forward to teaching you this year" she smiles brightly at me before walking to a chair at the back, pulling out a book. another student comes up to me as I write my name on the board.

"um... sir?"

"what can I do for you?" I greet the small girl. she gives me a sheepish smile.

"south. she can speak. she does this with new people. she always signs to them before she get's to know them. her sister was rendered mute from bullying, so she's wary. I just thought I would tell you" i nod.

"thank you. I appreciate you telling me." I smile at the girl as she walks away. I call out.

"okay, if you could all take your seats and listen up!" everyone does as instructed.

"my name is Mr haddock.-"

"what, like the fish?" one boy in the back sniggers. I roll my eyes.

"yes. like the fish. I would appreciate less of the sarcastic comments." south scowls at the boy, and he stops laughing.

"s-sorry sir." I just no.

"anyway. I don't know your names, when I point to you, could you stand up and tell me?" everyone nods. I point to students around the room, getting their names. I finally point to south, who stands up she just signs 'south' and sits back down.

"okay. so, can you please collect a script from the front and write a summary on it?" everyone does as i ask. south approaches me as I sit down at my desk.

"south! what can I do for you?" I ask cheerfully.

"I assume Lucy told you the reason I'm signing?" i nod.

"yes. I'm sorry about it. I can promise you I'm not like that, I'd like to think I'm a nice guy" I grin at her. she giggles.

"I know. I'm sorry if I offended you." she looks back an bites her lip.

"no. I understand why you don't want to speak yet. take your own pace." I gesture to the seat in front of me. she slowly takes it.

"I was wondering something... I'm sorry if this is rue but I've never heard an accent like yours before. where are you from?"

"it is pretty odd. I'm from a small island off the coast of Norway called berk. I moved to Norway when i was 17, and then got an opportunity to teach her, so I came here."

"oh. that must have been a big change. I am pure English. it's pretty boring" she laughs. I shrug.

"I happen to think you are very interesting." I sign to here. she blushes a deep red, before signing thank you to me.

"can I stay behind at break? I kinda want to chat?" she bites her lip. I nod.

"sure! you're always welcome here." she grins at me, before patting my shoulder and going to do her work.
