Context: South was born deaf, so her parents abandoned her. Stoick adopted her as a baby and raised her. That's it.

South is 0, so is hiccup

Stoicks p.o.v

"Shh... it's okay..." I coo to my newborn son. He's woken me up again with his crying, but I don't really mind. I sigh, wishing Valka was here to help, but she ran away. When his cries quiet and he falls back asleep, I pick up the sons of another baby crying, except it's outside. I look out the window and see someone leaving my property. I swiftly grab my
Gun from my desk after putting hiccup down and head outside. I find a baby, screaming her head off. She's clean and the cord has been cut. She's also dressed. There a note attached to her onesie. I pick her up and read the note
'We discovered that this baby is deaf. We don't want to deal with that. Take care of her.' I frown. This baby must be starved and cold. I take her inside and begin her a bottle. I wrap her in a blanket as the kettle boils. I feed her, then call the police.
"What happened?" They ask when they arrive
"I woke up because my son was crying for his bottle. Once he fell back asleep, I heard more crying. I looked out the window and saw someone leaving my property. I grabbed my gun-" I nod to it "- and went out. I found this baby just laying there with this note" I hand the man the piece of paper. He reads it.
"Okay. We'll take this in for examination. What d'you wanna do with the baby? We can take her and give her to a case worker, or you can apply to adopt her" I look down at this little girl.
"I'll adopt her. I always wanted a daughter, but my wife ran away before we ever had another kid"
"I see. Well, we'll take the note. There'll be a case worker with you soon" I nod.
"Thank you, officer" he nods back at me and leaves. I don't have another crib, so I head to hiccup's room. He's awake and squirming around. I gently move him over and lay the baby next to him. He snuggles into her and falls asleep. Awe, that's cute.

13 years later, hiccup's p.o.v

'South, I have a confession' I sign to her. She tilts her head at me. South is my best friend. She always has been, ever since she was left on our doorstep.
'You know you can tell me anything'
'It's embarrassing. I um... I kinda have a crush on you?'  She ponders my words for a moment
'Is it a puberty thing? Like, I'm a girl, your a boy, you're hormonal and your body wants me because I'm not a boy, and I have breasts?'
'... I don't think so. I mean, I've known you for so long. I know you better than everyone. I like you because you're brave. You don't let your disability hinder you. You take care of everyone' she smiles at me
'I see. I like you too, hiccup, but I didn't think you'd want to be stuck with a deaf girl'
'I don't care about that. I just want to be with you' I reach out and cup her cheek. She watches me. I tentatively lean in and press my lips on hers. I half expected kissing south to be a rush of butterflies and tingles, but I was so wrong. It's like a sense of peace. I feel so calm and content. I soon pull away.
"Thank you" She says out loud. Her voice is slurred. I peck her lips in response, making her smile.

"Dad?" It's been two weeks since the day we kissed, and we've finally decided to come clean about us.
"What can I do for you, son?"
"Um... two weeks ago, me and south kinda had a... moment. We kisses and um, since then we've been kinda...together?" I say sheepishly.
"I'm happy for you guys. I know you probably feel like it's wrong, or weird because she's your adoptive sister, but you're not related by blood. I support you guys, but it applies that you will not ever hurt her or I will kill you" He jokes. I crack a grin
"I wouldn't hurt her, dad"
"I know"

Age 15

I'm sat with south in the living room. I hear my dads heavy footsteps come in from behind the sofa, but I don't turn around. He sits across from us. She's cuddled into my side, reading on her kindle. I'm playing with her hair. I tap her, and she looks at me. I nod towards my dad, and she looks at him before grinning
'Daddy!' She signs happily. My dad chuckles
'Hi south. I've gotta talk to you and hiccup'
'What about?'
'About you. I've been doing some research, and sent out a few emails. You've been accepted to get a cochlear implant' both me and south gasp
'Really? So I'll be able to head again?'
'It will take a few years, but yes.'
"Daddy!" She squeals our loud before pulling out of my arms and hugging my dad. I watch her with a smile.

Age 18, souths p.o.v

Someone's tapping my face. I open my eyes and see a nurse. She holds up a sign.
'Afternoon, sleeping beauty!' I smile a little.
"Hiccup?" I say out loud. I don't know what it sounds like, but it probably isn't very good. The nurse writes on the notepad
'He's in the waiting room. I can go get him, if you want me to' I nod. She walks out the room, soon coming back with my auburn boy In tow. He smiles at me.
'Hey baby. How do you feel?'
'Pretty okay'
'I'm glad. I love you'
'I love you too'

Two weeks later

I'm sat in the doctors office. Hiccup and stoick are sat in front of me. Hiccup is smiling encouragingly at me. I smile back. The nurse says a few things to them, that I can't hear. She then says something to me. I lipread what she's saying and manage to figure out she's saying
'I'm going to play a series of beeps. Show me when you can hear me' I watch her as she presses some buttons. Then, I wait. After a moment, I get a shock to actually hear some faint beeps, that then get louder
"I-I can hear it" I jump when I hear my own voice. I look back at hiccup and stoick. Hiccup looks so hopeful
"Love? Can you hear my voice?" He asks me softly. I jump again. His voice is deep and raspy and nasally.
"Yes..." He lets put a breath
"Can you hear me, lass?" My dad says in his thick accent. I nod
"Yeah" hiccup stands up and hugs me hard. I bury my head in his chest.
"I love you"
"I love you too"
