187- No Dragon Left Behind

Hiccup is 18, south is 18 and 5 months pregnant.

Hiccup's p.o.v

"I'm telling you guys. It's perfect!" Fishlegs says, hovering next to Astrid
"And what do you mean by perfect?" Astrid gives him a look.
"Well, it possesses a very similar climate and vegetation to melody island, nice canyon walls to hold in the sound, no visible hostel species! I'm telling you Astrid, it is perfect"
"Hey, here's a thought!" I Butt in. "Why talk about when we can walk about it? In-instead of flying..." my joke trails off when I realise it landed terribly. I hear south giggle as she comes up behind me. Everyone else flies forward with grumbles.
"Don't worry, I thought it was funny" she says. I raise my eyebrow at her, making her laugh again.

Time skip

"Goodbye, Garf" South says softly, raising her hand to gently stroke Garfs about. Once everyone has said their goodbyes, I hear some rustling.
"Uh... is anybody out there?" What looks like a giant snake emerges from the bushes and roars at us. I instantly have windwalker and south behind me and toothless. More of them emerge from the bushes and Astrid sends a furious look to fishlegs
"What? Like I knew there were giant snakes here, those are my favourite" he groans, then shrieks as one of the giant snakes spreads a pair of wings and roars
"Those are not snakes, those are slitherwing dragons" I yell. Snotlout mutters to Hookfang, something about not knowing what a slitherwing is.
"They're poisonous! And dragons!" I yell to him, making toothless jump out of the way of the venom.
"Don't touch their skin! It's coated in, well-"
"POISON?"
"Precisely. Touch one and you are dead by the next moon. One drop will kill an unborn baby straight away" my heart drops.
"South, stay clear" I yell. She nods and backs windwalker up out of the way as we fight them. I pull Astrid out of the way of one of the slitherwings.
"Garf!" She yells when she sees him being cornered by a few of them. Stormfly flies in to help as he turns tail and runs away.
"Stormfly, no!" She shouts after the madder that has flown after Garf. South flies after them
"SOUTH!" I yell, urging toothless after them. We drive the slitherwings away, and find stormfly. She's encased in the Amber. But south and Garf are gone.
"Hey, Easy Girl, Easy" I soothe stormfly as I get her out of the amber. She immediately starts running around frantically, squawking at us.
"Stormfly, c'mere! Calm down!" Astrid yells frantically, trying to calm the agitated dragon.
"Guys, I think the sliverwings took Garf... and maybe south, too..." I freeze, then shake my head
"No, not south, or windwalker would've gone after her. She must've ran off to protect the baby"
"But not before they poisoned my dragon" Astrid says, holding her arms up to try and calm stormfly.
"Hiccup, I've never seen her like this before, just look at her eyes!" She gestures.
"She seems disoriented. She might be in shock, from the poison..." they eventually find fishlegs' slitherwing card, and find that there is an antidote for the poison.
"Guys, we don't have much time. We need to get the antidote and find out what happened to Garf. Snotlout, you're with me. Fish and the twins, get the antidote. Astrid, find south, make sure her and the baby are safe and stay with stormfly" everyone nods
"Snotlout, c'mon"

Astrids p.o.v

"South!" I yell, walking through the trees. As expected, no reply
"South!" I call again. I see a lump of amber on the ground, as I walk up to it, I freeze. South is encased completely inside, not a single pet of her is exposed. Her eyes are closed. It's obvious that she wouldn't be able to breath in there... she's dead.
"GUYS!" I scream. The other three come running.
"What- Oh no..." fishlegs whispers, kneeling next to the cocoon. The twins gasp.
"South..." I place my hands on the amber.
"Oh no..." I whimper.
"We need to get her out!" Fishlegs yells.
"No... she's dead, fishlegs. Her and the baby are gone. If we blast her out, we'll burn her skin. Hiccup doesn't need that as well" I say through tears. Fishlegs nods.
"Me and ruff will get hiccup" tuffnut says
"No, get the antidote. We'll tell hiccup when he comes back" i say. Thy nod and walk away. Fishlegs goes with them. I sigh and stand up.
"I'm sorry, South. I hope you weren't in pain" I whisper before turning and leaving to go and find stormfly.

Time skip

"Did you get the venom?" I ask the others. They shake their heads.
"I can't lose her" I choke before running past them
"Astrid no!" Fishlegs yells after me, but I ignore him and keep running. I couldn't save South, but I'm going to save stormfly. With that thought in mind, I find a slitherwing and dodge around it before punching its scales. The poison sweeps into my skin, and I instantly feels it's effects. I manage to make it back to the others.
"I hope you can make two doses" I say before fainting.

Time skip

Hiccup's p.o.v

"Guys, where's South?" I ask once we've left the cave. Instantly, Astrid, fishlegs and the twins's faces fall.
"Guys...?" My heart is pounding
"Hiccup, I'm so sorry" Astrid whispers
"W-What do you mean? Where is she?" Astrid takes my hand and leads me through the woods, the others following behind. I see a lump of deathsong amber, and run towards it. South is encased inside
"South... no!" I yell, pounding my fists on the amber in a desperate attempt to break it.
"Why did you help her?" I scream to the others
"We found her like this... blasting her out would do not good... she was dead when we got here" Astrid whispers. I let out a choked sob and gain a small shred of reason, pulling out my sword and lighting it. I use it to get her out. Her skin is still warm as I cradle her in my arms. I use one hand to keep her head up, her hair falling silkily through my fingers
"South... please" I whimper, gently shaking her.
"South, please wake up" my vision blurs. Suddenly, her body jerks and she coughs, her eyes fluttering.
"South!" I yell, pulling her tight against me. Everyone gasps
"How... she hasn't been breathing for hours" I ignore fishlegs. South weakly gasps
"Hmm..."
"Oh my gods, I thought you were dead" i sob.
"H-hiccup"
"Yes, yes it's me. Oh gods, South" I cry. Her arm wraps around me.
"I'm... okay" She rasps. I then gasp
"It must've been the amber. It somehow kept you alive. Garf knew what the poison would do to you and the baby. He saved you" I splay my palm on her subtly rounded stomach.  I get a small kick against my palm, which makes me sigh in relief. Both south and the baby are okay. I pick her up, cradling her in my arms before turning around to face everyone.
"Lets take to the air, before those things come back" I say. Everyone mounts their dragons and we fly off. I keep hold of south, windwalker following behind us.
"Guys, there's still one thing we need to do" fishlegs says. I nod.
"I'm glad you're okay, South" Astrid says, flying up next to us. South gives her a weak thumbs up.
"South, go to sleep. You need it" she nods and snuggles into me, swiftly falling to sleep.
