This is based off the chapter the eel effect. South is 6 months pregnant (what a fucking surprise) and eel pox is deadly for pregnant women. Joint chapter with bluejay_1111

Hiccup and south are 16

Souths p.o.v

I walk with hiccup towards the great hall, peering in at all the sick vikigs
"Dear sweet Freya" I whisper, looking around at everyone.
"Be careful, south" hiccup looks to me, then back toward the sick people. He sighs and squeezes my hand.
"Hiccup, south!" We hear fishlegs behind us. We turn, seeing him hovering 10 feet behind us on Meatlug.
"Astrid went to get Gothi, she'll meet us at the academy" he says before turning and flying off. Hiccup mounts toothless and reaches down, placing his hands under my arms and pulling me up behind him, as I can't mount a dragon in my own anymore because of the baby bump. We fly down to the academy, where we find the twins and are waiting.
"Ready, gang?" Hiccup says when toothless lands
"Ready to leave berk during an outbreak of eel pox? Hmm, lemme think, lemme think, lemme think, Id say that's a big fat YES" Snotlout cheers. I roll my eyes and dismount toothless.
"Snotlout, be quiet" I huff
"What are you gonna do, fat-ass? Smother me to death In motherly love?" He taunts. As a woman, I have to sit there and take it. I just grit my teeth.
"Snotlout, don't call my wife fat, or I'll tell your mother." Hiccup glares at the short, stocky boy, making him be quiet.
"Always fear the wrath of a mother" I murmur, and hiccup smiles
"The sooner the better. I do not wanna get sick" tuffnut comments. I look over at him
"Yeah, and if he gets sick, I get sick" ruffnut replies
"Wuh- you do?"
"Yeah, we're twins" she smirks. North walks in at that moment, coming to stand next to me as hiccup helps me off toothless.
"So if I hit myself- wuh- would you feel it?"
"Yeah, give it a try!" I roll my eyes at ruffnuts provocations to make tuff hit himself, knowing that it is in fact false, and twins don't feel each other's pain.
"Guys, please." Hiccup starts, jumping off toothless. North walks over to tuff and helps him up, murmuring to him. He nods and places a sloppy kiss on her cheek, making her giggle.
"Guys, we need to leave for healers island as soon as Astrid gets back" he says, looking at the four people.
"Leave south behind. The whore is just dead weight" Snotlout rolls his eyes.
"Snotlout, What is with you today?" Hiccup narrows his eyes.
"What? Just pointing out what we all know"
"Snotlout, I swear to Thor I will-" Hiccuo begins, but I stop him.
"Hiccup, don't. I can take it. Let it go" I whisper urgently to him. He faces me, and I can see the simmering anger in his eyes. I place my palm on his cheek, and he calms down a little.
"We'll deal with him later" I whisper. He nods.
"Later."
"Hiccup" I hear Stoick day in a roughened voice
"Dad! You should be resting up at the great hall" hiccup says, lightly gesturing.
"Nonsense" he says, before promptly sneezing all over Snotlout who screams and runs off. I can't help the snicker that passes my lips at the karma inflicted in him, and hiccup sends me a mirthed glance.
"I won't be grounded by the sniffles" Hiccup walks up to him, only to be sneezed on. Great.
"Woah!" Hiccup yells, turning away so he doesn't breathe it in.
"Oookay" hiccup gives an awkward chuckle as we hear stormflys squark, and she lands in the centre of the arena.
"We've got the lost of ingredients, and it's a big one" Gothi holds out a list of what must be 20 different ingredients.
"Well then we better get movin', that medicine isn't gonna make itself" hiccup states.
"What about your lass?" Stoick looks to me
"I'm damned if I do and damned if I don't, sir. I'm going with them to healers island" I tell him. He nods and walks closer to hiccup who has just picked up his shield to check it.
"I should be going with yo-achoo!" He sneezes all over hiccup again, who swiftly lifts his shield to block most of it. I glance worriedly at hiccup, who shares the look.
"Dad, berk needs a healthy chief. Not a sick dragon rider" hiccup says, moving his shield down again and facing away from his dad.
"We can handle this" he turns back to his father for a moment. I walk towards them, placing my hand in hiccup's shoulder. He brushes my fingers with the tips of his, making me smile.!
"Alright. I'll stay here with the rest of the village. Take care of her, lad. If she gets sick..." stoick trails off, looking at me. I smile at him
"She won't get sick. Don't you worry about that" he turns to me for the last prt of his sentence. Since I got pregnant the night hiccup and Astrid and I found the nest, I haven't got my own dragon so I always ride with hiccup. He helps me up into toothless, situating me in front of him so he can hold me in place while he flies, since my belly would press against his back, stopping me from holding him tight enough to keep me safe.
"Be safe, hiccup" stoick says. Hiccup turns and smirks
"When am I not safe?" Stoick gives him a look
"I'll stop him from getting himself killed" I loudly whisper to stoick, making him chuckle
"Hey!"
"Sorry" I kiss his cheek, before toothless takes off. The flight there is uneventful, until we land on healers island
"Okay, south, you stay here with Gothi. Everyone else, here is what you need to collect" hiccup tells everyone what they need to get and sending them off.
