194- to heather or not to heather

I had this idea (no shit) I'm too lazy to put the episode on for reference so the dialogue is gonna be really wrong as well as the plot but you can fight me for it.

Hiccup and south are 19, chaos is 4 and kari is 1 month

Souths p.o.v

"She can't just become a dragon rider!" Tuffnut protests, listing off reasons to back up his point. I hold kari in my arms. Chaos walks into the clubhouse from where he was playing with toothless outside and looks between everyone. Hiccup walks over to him, still talking to tuffnut and picks him up, setting him on his hip.
"Plus, Heather has no experience with kids! What if she puts them in danger!" Ruffnut expands his point. I sigh. She's playing on hiccup's weak points
"C'mon, Ruff, that isn't fair. How about, we have her here for just a few days, to see how she does?" Hiccup says. Everyone agrees with the plan.
"Daddy, is it dinner time?" Chaos asks. Hiccup looks down at him, then over at me.
"Is everyone hungry?"
"Why are our mealtimes designated by him?" Snotlout says, annoyed. He is the only one who never really took to the kids, despite the fact he's their second uncle.
"They aren't. I'm just asking so I know if I should make food for him or for everyone" I say, standing up. And slotting kari into the little sling I made.
"Yeah, Yeah. We're hungry" Snotlout grumbles, I able to resist my cooking.
"Ooh, can you make those really nice fish again? The salmon?" Astrid almost begs. I chuckle
"Sure, I think I have some salmon at the hut. I'll have it ready in an hour" hiccup sets chaos on the ground, where he runs ahead, waving a stick around. I giggle watching him. I was in berk when heather last came, so she doesn't know about the kids, though she does know about our marriage. I was only three months pregnant when we met her for the first time.

Time skip

"Heathers here!" I hear Fishlegs call excitedly. I leave toothless to watch over kari as she's still sleeping in her cradle as me an hiccup walk to the stables with chaos to meet her. Chaos runs inside, loving the stables as he can play with the night terrors.
"Heather!" I gasp, having not seen the girl in four years
"South! My word!" She laughs and hugs me when she dismounts windshear. She then hugs hiccup
"It's so nice to see you guys! Thanks for inviting me!" She smiles.
"Oh, it's nothing. Thought you could use a break. Not that kari screaming her head off at two in the morning is much of a rest" hiccup chuckles.
"Kari? Is she a knew dragon?" Hiccup shakes his head and gives her a cheeky grin, then turns.
"Chaos!" He yells. Heather looks really confused. Chaos runs out of the stables
"Yeah?"
"C'mere, son. I want you to meet someone" he walks up.
"Heather, this is our son, chaos. Chaos, this is my friend heather" heather looks shocked. Chaos smiles at her
"Hello!" He says happily
"Um, hi, kiddo" chaos giggles. I pick him up.
"He's a classified hiccup, just like his father. I wanted to name him Hiccup haddock the fourth, but hiccup wouldn't let me" I giggle
"It would be weird! Plus it's such a tragic name" I laugh, and so does heather.
"So... who is kari?"
"Kari is our newborn daughter. She's only a month old and she's given us all a healthy dose of sleep deprivation" hiccup jokes. We laugh again.
"Chaos, go play with windwalker. She'll bring you home"
"Okay!" He hops down from my arms and runs off to play.
"Anyway, Heather-" I'm cut off my fishlegs, who runs up, panting.
"Woah, take a knee, fishlegs!" I laugh.
"Sorry! Hi heather!"
"Fishlegs!" She says delightedly. I slide up next to hiccup
"I have a feeling we should leave the happy couple be" I murmur. He chuckles
"Yeah" I follow him into the stables to watch chaos. Snotlout walks up, looking annoyed
"The baby is screaming again." I nod and stand.
"I got this one, hicc. You keep an eye on chaos" he nods and gently kisses me me. I walk to our hut. Toothless has taken a now awake and screaming kari out of the crib and he's holding her in his paws, gently trying to replicate my rocking movements. I smile at the unholy offspring of lightening and death itself cradling a baby
"Thanks boy" I say, patting the top of his head and reaching between his paws, taking kari out. I sit on my nursing chair downstairs. I touch the side of her mouth and sure enough, she turns towards my finger, trying to suck on it. I unbutton my dress and let it fall into my lap before pulling down one half of my breast bindings, supporting her head as she first burrows into my breast. They feel rock hard and full. I jump when she latches on, and it feels like a dozen little pinpricks before it's just the weird sucking sensation. I lean back and close my eyes as she feeds. I hear the hut door open, and footsteps come towards me. I expect hiccup, but when I open my eyes, I'm greeted with heather
"Oh uh, sorry. I'll come back-"
"No, it's okay." I sit up straighter
"Does that not... hurt?" She asks, watching kari.
"Yeah, it does at first, but it stops after a minute"
"I could never do that" I laugh
"It's not for everyone. Me and hiccup had a long conversation about it. Breastfeeding has is pros and its cons, like everything else. I mean, hiccup was only breastfed for a month before his other disappeared, while I was never breastfed at all because my mom left. We decided we want our babies to be breastfed for two years."
"Two years? Bloody hell" I laugh lightly
"It seems a lot longer than it is, trust me. It feels like only a few weeks ago when I was breastfeeding chaos"
"How did I never meet him, when I first met you guys?" She asks.
"He wasn't born yet. I was only three months pregnant at the time. I hadn't told Hiccuo yet. I got a thorough reprimanding for fighting in that battle while pregnant" I laugh lightly. She smiles. Kari falls asleep attached to my breast, so I just pull her off and take off my bindings to re-wrap then. Heather watches me with curiosity
"How are you so comfortable doing that in front of me?" I tilt my head at her
"Do you not have two breasts of your own? Hiccup can take his shirt off in front of fishlegs, so why can I not take mine off in front of you?"
"I'd... never thought of it like that" I giggle lightly
"So, why did you come up? I assume it wasn't to learn all about breastfeeding" she blushes lightly and smiles
"Hiccup told me to come here, said you'd keep me company while the others went to deal with the nadder migration"
"I see. Well, I can do that. How about you help me with dinner? I usually cook alone, because Astrid and ruff really cannot cook." She smiles and nods
"Sounds great." I smile and put kari down in her little bag on toothless' saddle that hiccup has for when we travel to berk with her and I have Chaos. She likes it in there, as she can hear toothless' breathing and his heart which is similar to when she was in the womb. Me and heather begin dinner. The door opens, revealing chaos holding onto windwalkers neck as she flies him in.
"Hey mommy, hey heavver" he smiles, climbing off the bright red changewing. He hugs my legs, so I bend down and kiss the top of his head
"Hey buddy. Are you ready for a nap?" He nods.
"Can you tell me a story?" I nod
"Sure! Heather, can you continue dinner?"
"Yeah, that's fine" she takes over salting the yak chops, so I take chaos upstairs. He has his own little bed, but he usually just ends up sleeping with me and hiccup. I have no complaints, of course. I take him to his bed and lay him down.
"How about I sing you a song?" He nods.
"Can I?" I hear heather ask from behind me. She looks a little nervous.
"Do you want heather to sing you a song?"
"Yeah, Aunty heavver!" He smiles happily
"Oh!" Heather gasps lightly
"He's used to calling women that look my age his aunt. He calls both Astrid and ruff his aunts. Is that okay?"
"Yeah... yeah, of course" she sits on the bed next to him. I bring him into my arms.

Sleep, little one sleep." She finishes. Chaos lightly hums, burrowing into his blanket. I kiss his head and leave him to sleep.
"You're a beautiful singer" I say quietly to her. She smiles lightly
"Thank you. I'm sure you are, too"
"I have to be. I've been singing to hiccup for years. It's the only thing that puts him to sleep when he's had another nightmare"
"He has nightmares?" Heather asks softly
"Yeah. He dreams about killing toothless, and he dreams about when chaos was floated out to sea in the middle of the night by mildew. It was so scary. We spent three days looking for his body, when trader johann brought him back to us, saying he'd spotted him floating in a lobster pot near Thor rock island. It was a miracle he survived the cold and the hunger"
"Oh my god..."
"Yeah. It affected hiccup a lot. Don't tell him I told you any of this. He doesn't like thinking about it" she nods
"You have my word" we dish up the yak chips and bring the plates through to the clubhouse. Just as we're placing them down, the gang walks in.
"What is that smell?" Snotlout is practically slobbering
"Dinner. We figured you'd be hungry" heather says. Everyone sits down to eat. I remember I left Chaos to sleep.
"I gotta get chaos up from his nap, I'll be back in a minute" hiccup nods and takes a bite of his food, smiling appreciatively. I run to our hut and up the stairs. Chaos is still sound asleep. I sit next to him and place by hand on his side, gently stroking him. His eyes flutter and he peers up at me
"Dinner time, baby. Daddy's back, and I'm sure he'll want to tell you all about where he's been" he smiles and holds his arms out, so I pick him up and take him through. I place him on the ground and he runs to hiccup.
"There's my buddy!" Hiccup greets in an over enthusiastic voice. Toothless walks in and lays next to me, so I can see kari. I take a bite of my food, smiling at the taste.
"What did you do, daddy?" He asks excitedly. I watch the father, son duo as I eat.
"Well, there was a pack of nadders, loads of them!" He gestured wildly with his arms, yak chop still clutched in his hand.
"We had to change the direction they were flying because they were going to run into the bad men" that's how he refers to the hunters to him. Hiccup retells what they did to him, obviously exaggerating the points. Everyone watches with smiles, even Snotlout. Nobody can deny how cute a sight it is. Hiccup is such a good father, absolutely doting on him. Usually, a kid will gravitate towards one parent, but chaos just doesn't. Chaos eats as he listens. After we finish eating, everyone heads to bed. (Yes I know they went after the nadders again). Me and hiccup have two hours downtime in the evening. Kari is still sleeping, so I move her from toothless' bag to her cradle, and the food makes chaos go back to sleep too. Windwalker goes to the stables to sleep, and toothless falls asleep on his rock. Me and hiccup sit by the fire, watching it.
"I love you" He whispers into the skin of my throat
"I love you too" I whisper back. He takes my hips in his hands and pulls at my dress, making me turn around to kiss him.

Time skip

Hiccup's p.o.v

It's dark. I can hear waves crashing against a beach. I'm younger again, stood on my bola launcher. I try to stop myself, but I can't. I fire the launcher. Instead of it just hitting toothless and sending him down, something on the bola cuts him open, splattering me with blood. I scream in fright and the scene changes. I'm now actually on the beach. I see mildew, walking towards the ocean, holding a lobster pot
"What are you doing?" I ask him. He ignores me, I repeat my question and reach out, going to grab the pot but my hand goes straight through
"Wait, What-" He places it in the water. It begins to scream. Chaos.
"CHAOS!" I scream
"CHAOS, NO! I try to get to him, but I just see the small pot get further and further away, the screams getting quieter and quieter.

Souths p.o.v

"CHAOS!" I jerk away, hearing hiccup scream.
"CHAOS NO!" Chaos wakes up and runs over, crawling on the bed next to me. Hiccup has tears streaming down his face as he thrashes in the bed. The door downstairs slams open, and heather runs in, holding her axe.
"What's going on?" She yells.
"Nightmare. Step back, Heather. He might freak" she nods and throws the axe away.
"Hiccup, hiccup!" I yell, gently hitting his cheek. His eyes fly open and he sits up, breathing heavily.
"Chaos" he whimpers, pressing the heels of his hands to his eyes. He's rocking back and forth, burning to himself.
"Daddy" chaos wraps his hands around hiccup's wrists. He freezes and moves his hands, looking at the small boy.
"Chaos..." he breathes out, reaching out to his son. Chaos launches into his arms.
"Oh, chaos..." he rocks his son, moving him into a bridal hold. Kari has woken up and started crying, so heather goes over to her. I flash her a grateful look.
"Heather?" Hiccup asks in a hoarse voice
"Sorry, I heard you screaming. I thought someone was hurting Chaos" she says, gently bouncing the screaming kari. I take the small baby and begin to nurse her.
"I'll leave you guys alone. I hope you feel better, hiccup" heather says before walking away. Hiccup lets out a long breath, clutching chaos closer.
"Sorry for waking you, buddy" he murmurs to chaos, who snuggles closer into his neck
"It's okay" he whispers.
"And you, South. Gods, I'm being such a wimp. I just need to get over it" he mutters wretchedly.
"I understand, hiccup. What mildew did... it was awful. It's a miracle we still have our baby boy" I stroke chaos' thick auburn hair that is just like his fathers.
"Yeah..." I set a now sleeping kari back down, and sit behind hiccup, wrapping my arms around him and chaos. I begin to sing.

The sun will be rising soon" hiccup is leaning heavily against me. His breathing has slowed, and so has chaos'. They've both fallen asleep. I smile and gently lay them down. Chaos is laying with his head, right arm and right leg on top of hiccup. I slip into bed behind Chaos, laying my arm over him and hiccup. I soon also fall asleep.

The next morning

After feeding kari and attaching her to me with the sling, me, hiccup and chaos walk to the clubhouse. Everyone is already there.
"Hey guys..." Hiccup says sheepishly.
"Are you alright? We all heard the screams last night" Snotlout asks him. Under all the brawn and terrible flirts, Snotlout is actually a good person who really cares about hiccup
"Yeah... I'm sorry. I... I need to get over it" Chaos senses hiccup's sadness and crawls into his lap. Hiccup holds him tight
"It's okay, hiccup. We understand." Fishlegs comforts him.
"Thanks guys" he smiles. I place my hand on his knee, and he leans a little into me. We all eat our oatmeal, and go on with our day as normal.
