Himiko walked down the snowy road, she was bundled up in a big coat and some comfy sweatpants, along with a scarf around her neck.It was Christmas morning.
She walked down the street she hadn't been to in a long time.
Since February of that year, she hadn't seen or talked to her father. The previous nights Tenko had finally convinced her to do so. After all she'd only ever have one father.
She could barely stay focused, she was incredibly anxious. The last she had talked to her father was the day after she and Tenko first hooked up. She had never even gotten to explain what happened. She was scared.
She walked up and saw her house. The lights were on, and her father's car was in the driveway. She breathed in heavily before slowly walking up the driveway.
She got to the door and pulled out her house key. Once again she breathed in heavily.
'Come on Himiko...you got this.' She monologues before twisting the key in the lock and unlocking the door.
She walked inside and patted her shoes on the floor, kicking off snow. She took off her shoes and put them where the pile of other shoes were, her mothers included. She frowned.
Then she heard thumps coming from the living room and once she turned around she saw her father standing at the railing of the stairs.
"Himiko..." The man's voice slightly broke.
He had grown facial hair, more than Himiko had ever seen him with. He also lost weight, a lot of it.
"Hey dad..." The girl mumbled as she saw tears start to form in the man's eyes.
"You're home." The man smiled as he slowly started to walk down the stairs.
"Yeah..." Himiko froze, she wasn't sure what to say. She expected to be punished for running away.
The man reached the bottom of the stairs and slowly reached his hand down.
Himiko braced herself. Her father had never laid a hand on her even to discipline her. But after this she expected him to, part of her felt as if she deserved it.
The man softly cupped her cheek.
"My little girl is home."
Himiko opened her eyes and saw her father with tears streaming down his face as he smiled.
"Dad..." Himiko felt the flood gates breaking as she tackled the man into a hug.
He squeezed on the girl as if it was the last time he could ever hug her. "Himiko...I thought you'd never come home." He laughed as he continued to cry.
"Dad..." Himiko started to cry as she squeezed on her father.
"I'm sorry...I'm sorry I left." Himiko sobbed.
"It's okay...it's okay..." Her father replied while sniffling.
The two embraced for minutes before her father finally pulled away.
"You've...grown up." The man laughed as he wiped tears away from his face.
Himiko giggled as she did the same. "You've grown down, like a lot...you look great."
Her father smiled. "Needed something to do besides cry all day ,so I went to the gym a lot and ate right." He laughed to himself and Himiko frowned.
"I'm really sorry...I was just-"
"How about we sit down first? Then you can explain." Himiko's father cut her off as he unzipped her heavy jacket so that she wouldn't overheat in the toasty house.
Himiko nodded as she took off her scarf.
The two went upstairs and into the living room. The two sat down on opposite sides of the couch so that they could face one another. Himiko looked around, the house was nearly the same, pictures of the formal family were littered in the room. Himiko's father was still mourning the loss of his wife.
"As I was saying I'm really sorry...I just felt...I don't even know..." Himiko looked down at her hands which she held in her lap.
"I should apologize as well." Her father said to the girl who looked back up surprised at his words.
"Why?" Himiko asked and her father seemed to start staring into space.
"I got angry at you that morning. I understand why I did, but over these past months I've just been thinking..." The man looked at her with a sad expression.
"You aren't gonna be my little girl forever, and that was hard to accept but I needed to. You're gonna grow up to be your own woman that makes her own decisions." The man forced a smile as he could clearly be seen holding back his tears.
"Ever since we lost your mother, day after day you've started to look more and more like her. You've grown up to be a beautiful young woman in the 10 months you've been gone." The man stifled out a soft chuckle.
"I guess because of that, I've wanted to keep you close to home as long as I could." He said as Himiko felt her heart shatter, she felt horrible for leaving now that she saw what her father was thinking.
"Inko showed me pictures, of your homecoming this year. You were with that boy, and you looked happy. At first I was angry, but now I'm happy about it. If that boy makes you happy then I want you to continue to be with him." Himiko's father bowed his head down.
"I apologize for what I did that morning. I should have heard you out but I didn't." He said to the girl who lost it.
She started to sob again, she got up and ran over the man. "Dad...I missed you so much...I'm sorry I didn't contact you, I'm sorry I left, I should've came back and-and..." She could barely speak as she sobbed.
"It's okay Himiko..." Her father wrapped his arms around her and hugged her with a smile on his face.
"As long as you're here now, I forgive you for whatever you've done." He says to the girl who smiles as she sniffles, hugging the man back.
"I love you dad, I promise I'll stay home from now on..." Himiko smiled as she cried.
Himiko's father smiled as she patted her back.
"I'm happy to hear that."
