"From all the things I pictured in my future life, nothing could have prepared me for this."

When Lance forced you and the others to a night out, you had no choice but to join them.
Through a series of completely unexpected events, though, the...

"You think this will work?" you asked the person next to you, Allura, who was watching into an operating room through a glass window. All paladins and Lotor were assembled to watch Shiro get his prosthetic arm attached.
"I hope so. I really tried to make this prosthetic work for him." She folded her arms in front of her chest as she analyzed the metal arm from a distance. "With my fathers alchemy, this might have a good chance."
You nodded along, watching Shiro slowly wake up on the operating table. Mr Holt was doing the surgery, which surprised you when you first found out. You never knew he could perform surgery on people as well, but it seemed that he was really skilled.
"How come Altean alchemy works on Earth technology?" you then questioned. "If it wasn't built for it specifically- like the Altean pods, for example."
Lotor turned his head to the both of you, watching you for a moment. "Everything is built for it to some degree."
"How come?"
"He's right," Allura agreed. "Since everything is made of quintessence, and Altean alchemy uses quintessence," she started, gesturing with one hand on each side of her. She then intertwined her fingers, continuing, "then Altean alchemy can be performed on basically everything. To some degree, like Lotor said."
She didn't quite look at him when she addressed Lotor, which led you to believe she wasn't as close to him again as you thought. Of course, that day when you were lost in space made everyone act differently, so her teaming up with him might have just been a mistake on her part. You also noticed that she didn't look at him with disgust or anger anymore, which was better than before. The others slowly got used to his presence as well.
You thought about what Allura just said. "So you guys might not be the only ones with these alchemy abilities, right? Since it's a universal thing?"
The both of them shrugged. "Probably," Lotor replied. "Not even every Altean has these abilities. It requires a deep connection and understanding of quintessence and what makes this universe. The alteans are definitely the only ones we've heard of with that ability, though, and they're definitely the pioneers of alchemy."
You nodded again, letting these words sink in. "So, theoretically...," you started, hesitating to think of a way to phrase your next words.
"You trying to be an alchemist too now, or what?" Lance suddenly chimed in, lazily putting his arm on your shoulder. You immediately felt hot in your face, embarrassed of how stupid that sounded now that Lance said your thoughts out loud.
"No- I'm just, uh, I was just curious?!" you blurted out, trying to save yourself.
You and alchemy? That sounded like a child's fantasy- like when you were 10 and still waited for the big reveal that you were a princess just like you'd seen in your barbie movies.
