"From all the things I pictured in my future life, nothing could have prepared me for this."

When Lance forced you and the others to a night out, you had no choice but to join them.

You climbed onto the side step of the ship in front of you, lifting yourself up and stepping in. Sarah would join you soon so you could drive to your designated base where Sendak was building his weapons.
During the debriefing, all of you decided that there was no time to wait- you had to act quickly and take these weapons out before they could be activated. Sarah would get you there, fly back to the Garrison and fly off with the others to where support would be needed.
What you needed to do was call for Red and get her to come to you on her own. You took a deep breath. Would you be able to do it?
You heard someone stepping closer to your vehicle, so you turned on your heel to where you heard the sound of footsteps.
"Keith?" There he stood, hands on his hips with a smile on his face. He oddly looked more confident than usual.
You were the opposite. Just looking at him flustered you, considering what happened just hours before.
He held out his hand, waiting for you to take it and dismount the ship. You complied, slowly stepping over the frame and jumping down with his support.
"Is something the matter?" you asked, clutching his hand still.
"No, I just wanted to see you one last time before we leave for the mission."
The corners of your mouth lifted slightly at what he said. You'd be lying if you said you didn't appreciate how much he cared and looked after you. Every time you thought you'd gotten used to it, he managed to fluster you again.
You pursed your lips, looking to the ground. "Well, here I am."
Gosh, you weren't hiding it well.
Your cheeks felt hot, but you tightened your grip on his hand- a subtle sign to tell him you appreciated his presence without you having to stumble over your words to say it.
"Stay safe out there, okay?" Keith let his gaze wander across your face with a smile. His expression sent a warmth across your chest- it was as if he was cherishing something so precious to him, you couldn't believe it was directed at you.
Since you had the time and were alone right now, you ceased the moment to lean into a hug and hold him close- as close as these suits allowed you to be, at least.
"You be safe too," you mumbled into his chest. You felt a hand brush over your hair, before he planted a gentle kiss on your forehead.
Something between you two had definitely shifted.
Sure, you were still flustered like always, but it felt like you truly belonged to each other now more than before. His way of moving around you confirmed it too. He wasn't hesitating, or thinking too much about what to do or not- it came natural, as if you had been together like this your whole life. All because of that simple statement of yours, that you didn't want to take it slow anymore. Because of what followed, too.
