"From all the things I pictured in my future life, nothing could have prepared me for this."

Planet KN95223, also called Duler, was the desert planet you decided to land on after Shiro woke up.
It was around evening there, and the sun painted the atmosphere in a soft yellowish tone, reminding you somewhat of Earth. The sky had the same kind of beautiful gradient, going from a bright orange to blue to a deep orange closer to the horizon. You've watched it for a few minutes now.
That was the only thing these planets had in common, though. This place was not suited for life; rocks floated in the air and the oxygen was safe for only a few hours.
It was enough since you only decided to stay for a short while. You had to reorganize everything and get ready for the journey to Earth.
You were still unsure how long it would take. You made a mental note to ask Pidge later, and then you stepped out of your Lion.
Outside the others were gathered in a circle, sitting on top of boxes and talking. Shiro seemed to be doing well now, which made you happy.
Lotor, Ezor, Zethrid, and Axca were standing right next to them, although not engaged in their conversation. You watched Lotor's gaze jump from Allura to the others. Maybe he took your advice and decided to keep his distance.
It was better this way. Pushing them too soon would only turn them away from him.
"Were you able to contact Earth?" Shiro asked when Pidge joined the circle.
"No luck," she replied, letting her head drop. "The low power levels are probably affecting our broadcast distance. I'll keep trying as we head for Earth."
You jumped on top of a box, crossing your legs as you sighed. "I can't believe we're finally going home."
It felt like an eternity that you haven't seen Earth, it was almost surreal to think about going back to it; back to your people, the Garrison, your mother.
Hunk agreed, hugging himself tightly as he closed his eyes and said, "I'm gonna hug my parents and never let go."
"I can't wait to see how Dad integrated Altean and Earth technologies together," Pidge added, pushing her glasses up on her nose. When she talked about it, she had a kind of light in her eyes, smiling. She clasped her hands together, almost swooning over, as she exclaimed, "I bet he came up with something amazing! And my mom..."
Suddenly her face dropped with realization. "Oh, she's gonna be so mad at me for running away. I hope I'm not grounded."
You weren't even sure if your mother would care to visit you again; if you had the courage to go back home. Maybe seeing that you vanished all this time ago gave her a sense of relief you didn't want to ruin.
"How long will it take us to get home anyway?" you threw into the circle, watching some of them shrug. You all turned to Coran, who was already counting on his fingers, trying to calculate the distance.
