"From all the things I pictured in my future life, nothing could have prepared me for this."

When Lance forced you and the others to a night out, you had no choice but to join them.
Through a series of completely unexpected events, though, the...

Training today was more intense than usual.
Your limbs ached, begging you to take a break while you still kept pushing them to their limit. One after another, you took out drones, flying your way to bring you down with their lasers, while Keith took down your enemies on the ground.
Sweat ran down your nose and chin, cooling your flushed face.
"Behind you," your partner called out, warning you to duck with one nod as he swung his sword in your direction.
You let your legs collapse less elegantly than you should have but it did the trick, considering how little energy you had left in you. The sword sliced the robot behind you cleanly into two halves. The metal crashed against the ground and Keith moved onto the next target.
"I think the level's almost done?" he questioned in between deep breaths, wiping his face with his shirt. "Let's take a break after."
"Alright."
The rest of the session went by fast, with the both of you desperate to just get it over with and let yourselves drop to the floor to rest.
You transformed your guns into your usual daggers again and swung to toss it across the room, red string appearing. With a quick tuck, you redirected its course to wrap around the last three robots on the floor, tying them all together.
"Now," you announced for Keith to make his move. A few drones were still hovering above you but Keith skillfully dodged their attacks as he spun to gain momentum and struck all three enemies with his sword.
The weapon was aimed precisely at their necks where they were the most vulnerable, so his force would be enough to take them out with one attack.
And it was.
A hole opened in the ground and the dead opponents disappeared.
Without you having to say anything, Keith took the dagger that fell to the ground into his possession. It was still connected by that red string, so when you transformed them back into guns, you both knew that you had to synchronize your next steps.
"Aim," you instructed, as you did the same and held the barrel of your gun to face a drone.
"Shoot," Keith then shouted. You didn't pull the trigger, but the gun still went off, taking down the flying machine in front.
Two drones fell to the ground. One you took out and one Keith had killed.
Since your guns were coupled, the pulling of one trigger caused both of them to go off when held by the grip. It was similar to how you attacked that beast when you all got lost in space, only that two people were now taking advantage of your bayard.
As long as you and Keith coordinated well, you could do double the damage with one weapon. That way he also got to practice some wide range attacks as well, which was a good thing too. Relying on a sword alone would cost way more energy in the long run.
