The moment the ship landed, the both of you jumped out and rushed to hide under the tallest trees and bushes you could find. You activated your bayard in preparation, while Sarah held her rifle close to her body as well.

Blood rushed to your ears, you were in full survival mode. "We should move towards the mountain over there," you suggested, pointing to the area of it. It would be a rocky climb, but staying where you were would be a stupid idea. The Galra would shoot at where the ship was at, which was right next to you.

"Okay," Sarah agreed, nodding once, "Let's do it."

The two of you started running, making your way through the dense forest while Sarah contacted the Garrison. A hologram on her arm appeared, revealing Shiro.

"(Y/N), Sarah, where are you at? Almost everyone made it to their base."

Sarah hesitated, before explaining, "We're continuing on foot. It should take us a few minutes until her Lion arrives."

"On foot?" He didn't sound happy with that at all. "What happened to the ship?"

"Took major damage to the wings. It wouldn't stand another attack without crashing."

Shiro sighed.

"You said almost everyone made it to the base?" you asked for clarification, leaning forward to get closer to the speakers. "What's everyone's status?"

"Everyone's ready except for you and Lance. We're working on it."

You swallowed hard. "He's fine, though, right?"

"...I hope. We lost signal."

Despite your urge to ask a million more questions and demand for them to do something, you knew there was nothing you could possibly do from here to help him.

"Okay. Let me know when you reach him again. Please."

Shiro agreed, before you ended the call.

Your pace quickened, and you held your bayard tighter. You should focus on getting to that mountain.

"He's going to be fine, (Y/N)," Sarah said, giving you a half-smile.

"We don't know that." You lowered your gaze, biting your lip. "But damn, I hope so."

You heard shots coming from behind you. The Galra located the ship and shot it down in an instant. The shock wave moved every leaf and bush in the area, you were shoved forward by the resulting wind.

"They're onto us." You gritted your teeth, forcing your tired legs to pick up the pace. It was difficult to keep track of where the attacks were coming from but the increasing volume of the sounds told you to go faster.
