Sweat ran down your face, creating and uncomfortable wetness under your mask. Your mission to retrieve intel just got more complicated with the guards taking you to that General Kordok, and the anxiety was getting to you slowly.

"What do you think they meant with it being unsafe to touch the bottles? We're kind of right next to them," you commented, nodding to said bottles.

"If they work like drugs, I assume it's just really easy to become addicted." Keith shrugged as he looked over to them, a hand reaching to the glass. "I can kind of feel the energy through it. Of course, quintessence is probably hard to contain."

You took yet another right turn in that container of yours and your shoulder bumped against the wall. Luckily, it wasn't loud enough for anyone to notice.

That cloaking device came to your mind again. You pulled it out and held it in front of you. "Is there really no way to recharge it? Kolivan said it was complicated but..." you eyed the bottle of quintessence, "I want to try something."

Keith furrowed his brows as he watched you. "Are you sure?"

"Not really, but oh well," you replied, holding a hand to the bottle and another to the device as you closed your eyes.

You visualized the energy travelling, just like you always did and continued on for half a minute. You didn't have much time and if it didn't work by then, you'd just have to try something else.

Something about this was definitely different, though, you noticed. You only ever let small amounts of the quintessence flow through you. This one was too dangerous to use freely.

The next time your eyes opened, you looked up to a mildly astonished face. "It's actually a little emptier now," he said as he held up the quintessence bottle.

"I'm not really sure if that means the device actually works," you said, handing it to Keith. "We shouldn't depend on it."

You massaged your temples through the suit. Somehow, it felt like some of that energy was still lingering somewhere in your body, but you decided against doing something about it. If it made you stronger or helped you in any way in this fight, you wouldn't mind.

Keith nodded, stashing the device.

The next time you felt the container move, you suddenly heard the guard talk again. You assumed you were there already, in General Kordok's territory.

Your breath hitched, and you tried not to move an inch of your body to stay undetected and hear what was going on outside.

"I was sent to let you inspect this container and where it's headed. There might be something wrong with the ordered amount."

"Okay. Place it over there and take your leave."

"Of course."

From what you heard, you were now alone in this room with that General. You wondered just how good he was at fighting. Hopefully this would go smoothly.
