"From all the things I pictured in my future life, nothing could have prepared me for this."

When Lance forced you and the others to a night out, you had no choice but to join them.
Through a series of completely unexpected events, though, the...

A few minutes until you reached Earth.
Since the Lions came to rescue you and were fully charged up, you shortened your time of travel by months.
Pidge tried to contact the Garrison while you all entered the solar system. Voltron and Lotor's crew, who were traveling next to you.
In a way, Lotor's ship worked just like Voltron, since they were made out of the same material and you wondered if that meant you could try to connect them. It would take some engineering work, but would definitely be a fun project.
You sighed, leaning forward in your seat. Since the space madness wore off, you all reconciled as well. Lotor and Allura somehow seemed to get along better and the team was starting to accept it. Except for Romelle, of course.
It took some talking and clearing out the misunderstandings of what really happened. Apparently the loss of the alteans' lives were truly not planned and a consequence of the experiments working unexpectedly, but to Romelle it was all the same. Killing them yourself, or being negligent and creating this tragedy. Lotor wouldn't be forgiven by her, and he didn't expect it either.
So that was going well, or at least better than before.
While you were steering, Xyra was busy with working on the communications device. You finally had the time to get it working again and there were a lot of messages from Garrick.
"Tell them we're fine and we'll try to visit as soon as possible," you shouted over to her, to which she responded with a simple "Yup." before typing her messages.
"Oh, and ask for a report on Liadore's current state. I want to know what happened while we were gone."
You bit your lip, thinking of your return to Earth. Everyone will see their family again, which they've been anticipating and blabbering about this whole journey. And exactly that was what's been making you nervous.
Would your mom even come to see you? Did you want her to?
You weren't sure you could face her.
Sure, you faced Haggar and the druids, who tortured you for weeks. You faced corrupt leaders all over the galaxy and assassinated them without a second thought.
But seeing your mother again? Thinking of it just made you feel a pit in your stomach.
You should be angry at her, demand an apology or refuse to see her, and although you wanted to, you just knew you wouldn't be able to do any of it.
Once you'd see her face, that usual ice cold expression, you'd be fighting tears. You would feel like you did on that day she sent you off to the Garrison without a proper goodbye.
You shouldn't, and you felt angry at yourself for this, but deep down, you were just sad you wouldn't jump into your mothers arms like the others. You wouldn't receive a warm smile and nobody would tell you how much they missed you and how proud they are. It was stupid to wish for it, but you couldn't help it.
