“Are you sure about this?”

You looked to the entrance of what seemed to be a sort of haunted house attraction. The metal doors looked run down and rusty but you couldn’t really see in further than that. Every time someone before you in line entered the house, they disappeared into the darkness the moment they crossed the exact line of the door frames.

“What kind of… sorcery is this even? Why does it work that way?” you mumbled to yourself.

Keith and Pidge stood next to you, with the green paladin excitedly jumping up and down. “We have to get the prize! Just imagine what we can buy with all the points.”

A sign next to you displayed a number you couldn’t even read, among other prize options, but according to her it was enough to get the big pink plushy you had spotted in the arcade. Whatever you had gathered during the games was not quite enough, Pidge explained.

Keith on the other hand didn't seem to care much about the details of your mission as he still seemed to be thinking of the racing simulator in the arcade. He had scored a new high score on those machines and was proud of himself, to say the least.

When there was no one else in front of the line, the worker handed the three of you a flashlight, nodding to the entrance. “Find the lost soul wandering through this place and lead it to freedom, and it will grant you a prize of your liking. Enjoy,” he announced rather unenthused as he pushed the three of you inside. “Oh, and use the flashlights sparingly. Once the batteries are empty, you have to survive without them.”

Just like expected, everything immediately went pitch black. You clicked your flashlight on, only to see it illuminate barely half a meter ahead. “Seriously?” you groaned.

Suddenly, a light was directed at your face. You squinted in surprise, using an arm to block the light.

“Oh, sorry,” Keith apologized. He then looped an arm around yours and suggested the three of you stayed close.

“What? No!” Pidge protested. “We’ll never find the lost soul if we don’t split up.”

“You’re literally breaking the first rule of horror movies right now, Pidge. We have to stay together or else someone will disappear.”

“(Y/N), this is not a horror story. It’s an attraction at a fair… and I need to win that plushy more than I need my safety right now. I’m totally fixated on winning that thing for Allura, I can’t risk it.”

You felt Keith’s arm move in your hold, probably shrugging at the situation. “Sure, let’s split up then.”

“Great!” Pidge cheered before running off. Now it was only the two of you here.

“How big is this place even? These flashlights barely do anything and I want to leave this house sometime today.”

Not seeing even a speck of anything in front of you with both of your flashlights turned off was distressing. If it weren’t for your grip on Keith’s arm, you would have no idea how to orientate yourself right now.
