You and Keith were the last to arrive at the conference room. With only half a minute to spare, you made it just in time and quickly took a seat at the long table in the center of the room.

You dropped on the chair, trying to take a few breaths and calm down again. The lights dimmed and Mr Holt cleared his throat. "Alright, everyone's here so we can start the debriefing now."

He had a small remote in his right hand. With a click, a screen appeared behind him. It appeared to be the Garrison's layout plan. A few circles popped up, indicating Galra forces.

"Sendak's forces remain at bay, but without a meaningful supply line we're slowly being suffocated."

Shiro was the first to speak up. He sat at the front of the table, leaning forward in his chair as he asked, "Is no one else putting up a fight against Sendak?"

Next to Mr Holt stood Veronica, Lance's older sister. She held her hands folded in front of her, as she spoke, "Small underground pockets of resistance have attempted to do so with varying degrees of success."

You nodded along to what she said, watching the screen behind her change with signals indicating the bases of those resistant groups. One by one, they then disappeared again. A pop up in the corner of the screen displayed the dates.

Veronica continued, "Eventually, all were discovered and systematically wiped out."

You huffed in surprise when you realized those dates indicated the deaths of those rebel groups. It wasn't that long ago, some of them only being from the last three months.

"Earth's offensive capabilities simply don't stand a chance against the Galra."

You sat in between Keith and Hunk, who was only our left. He was visibly distressed at the information you were given.

"Why don't we bring more people to this base?" he asked, voice full of worry. You thought back to when you arrived here. Hunk's family didn't show up. They were still out there, in danger and with no way to see their son again.

Mr Holt turned to Hunk and explained, "We had to put a halt on our extraction ops as they were proven to be too risky."

Hunk's voice grew tense, "But there are good people out there. They could be protected. My family's out there."

Sam Holt didn't seem to budge. You knew he regretted saying this- his expression shifted into one of regret. "I'm sorry, Hunk."

"But if we have an opportunity now to do something-" "Hey, do paladins not understand the chain of command?!" James snapped. He stood on the other side of the room, with his hands in fists.

"Your CO said it was too dangerous."

You immediately opened your mouth, wanting to snap back at him, but Mr Holt beat you to it. "Officer Griffin, that's enough!"
