Viren's POV:

I sigh getting into my car glancing at the time. Five in the morning, I hate these early meetings. In case you're wondering, yes I have a car, and although I know a spell to transport me to where I need to go, it uses a lot of energy and I need to go unnoticed by the humans. I have lived amongst the humans and far away from any covens all my life. It's what allows me to work for the council. I have no family or friends that could cause me to be prejudice when voting, that they know of.
It's not desired to place a member in a high position who is easily influenced or blackmailed, so having no one is something rare and of value. That's not the only reason I am second in charge though. I'm also the most powerful of them all, not that they know exactly how powerful I am as I keep it well hidden. I fake exhaustion when needed, but I'm one of the top two according to 'their data' and tests. Margo is the first and our leader.

The drive from my house to the councils headquarters was around fifteen minutes. Long enough to know if someone was following me, yet close enough to escape danger if I ever stumbled across it.

The council meetings were always held in large parliament buildings across the world. The ground floor was run by humans who were considered to be in power, and the next two levels were strictly for the witch and wolf council members. Vampires had their own council someplace underground given their 'delicate' skin when exposed to the sun.
We had a level each, and no one could accidentally stumble onto the wrong floor.

There are two reasons we share the building with humans. One, they allow us to easily blend in. Their high numbers are good for security reasons. Imagine if an Alpha turned up with a handful of warriors, they'd stand out like a sore thumb. Two, although we keep our kind hidden from the human race, occasionally those they called presidents were let in on our little secret. Little did the general human population know, their governments were the easiest to corrupt and blackmail as all they desired was power and control. They were very selfish and slow evolving, always unwilling to prioritise the greater good if it didn't work in their favour.

We helped them on rare occasions neutralize threats, and in turn they helped us keep our kind a secret. Ever wonder why every rogue attack was so easily swept under the rug all these years? They created believable stories, and planted evidence when one of our kind crossed the line and went on murdering sprees.

It was a partnership that worked well as they knew our power over them. We had expert trackers and assassins that follow their every move, and on rare occasions oracles that could predict future betrayals. It's how we knew who to trust and who not to.

I step past the guards and make my way into the large white building. It was extravagant. There were mirrored walls and large chandeliers with crystals that reflected rainbow colours onto the white and grey marble floors.
The elevator stood to the left of the reception counter. When the doors closed I noticed the panel to the left. It had five slits cut into the metal and a circular device in the centre. In actual fact it was for the Alphas to slot there claws into and turn. By doing so it took them to the second floor. The right side had a similar panel but with a scanner. I held out my wrist. The lights went out before being replaced with black light. The invisible symbol on my right wrist could now be seen and scanned.

A small ding sounded approving the request. As the elevator began moving to the third floor I took a few deep steady breaths. I squared my shoulders and looked at my complexion in the reflective glass. My eyes were bright blue. Good. It was a constant battle having to refrain from drinking human or witch blood. When I did my eyes instantly turn red, and that was a side effect I couldn't afford as no one knew about by vampire heritage. Being a hybrid meant I would constantly have a target in my back.
