Salvator's POV:
I wake up to find myself in a large khaki coloured tent. The centre beam made the roof point up in the centre, and the entrance remained flapping in the gentle breeze. To my right sat Coal, his head in his hands as he mumbled something incoherently to himself. His stubble had grown some, and I had wondered how it grew so fast. We only had hair cuts and freshened up this morning.
"Hey man, you okay?" My voice sounded scratchy and deeper than usual. Coal's face shot up in surprise. He released a large breath before walking over to me and handing me a glass of cold water. I gratefully gulped it down before handing it back to him.
He eyed me suspiciously and I wondered what was on his mind. "Spit it out." I say not in the mood to guess what has him so shaken. He swallows before dragging his seat by my bedside. The sound grating on my nerves. I felt uneasy for some reason but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
"Tell me Jaycee is safe." As long as she is safe everything will be fine. I remind my beast and myself, those he didn't even stir or make a sound.
"You almost died man." My eyebrow rose in shock at his words. His hands rub down his face and I notice the large dark circles under his eyes.
"You took a few hard hits while swimming towards Jaycee, and rather than allowing yourself to heal first, you used your magic to get you both out of the water and to safety. Luna Alexa mentioned your magic ran out before you could land, and you flung Jaycee on top of you, making you cop the majority of the brunt. You were both out cold."
"Where is she, I need to make sure she is okay." I say attempting to stand before a sharp pain goes through my ribs making me gasp and sit back down.
"Wow Vir- I mean.. Salvator take it easy! You broke a few ribs, lost a lot of blood and cracked your skull. The Luna's magic was running low but she managed to stop the bleeding. She said it was best to put you into an induced coma until your beast was strong enough to help you heal."
I look at Coal as though he lost a few screws. "There is no way I needed to be placed in a coma. Have you seen how quick I heal when consuming human blood?" I reminded Coal.
"Not even human blood can stop you from bleeding out with the amount of wounds that were on you, and every time you fed during the battles, it was small mouthfuls! I know because I was watching you. "Tell me oh mighty Salvator." Coal says with sarcasm thick in his voice. "When was the last time you drank to your fill?"
"A month but-"
"Exactly. You feel great now, because you were so used to starving yourself your whole life. You literally deprived yourself of blood so much, that your beast had no choice but to take control of your weakened human form, or you'd die.
I sigh in defeat rubbing my tired eyes as they begin to burn. "Alright I get your point. How long was I out out?"
"Four days."
My blood runs cold. "Four days?" I hiss with wide eyes. Coal picks up my gloves and walks to me.
"You lost a glove while saving her, Sadie found it at the waters edge and brought it to me. There is a chance Jaycee knows your true identity, though she's been pretty out of it."
"I'll figure it out Coal, either way I wasn't goo to let her die. I need to see her." I say as I stagger to my feet.
"No!" Coal yells suddenly and I glare at him as he steps in front of the flapping tent exit. The cool breeze beckoning me like a whisper, howling and whistling it's song as it glides between the tall tree branches.
I snatch my gloves and put them on. "What do you mean.. I can't!?!" A small growl escapes me, and I can feel my beast beginning to stir, though he is very weak. He can hear us but doesn't have the energy to react or move much.
A scream I recognise as Jaycee's makes my legs move on their own. My heart races at the pain I her voice.
