Jaycee's POV:
Pain, drowning, and intense fear. As if my panic attack, and suffocation wasn't enough, I now had to experience another's death.
Even as his tight grip on my throat released, redirecting it to his own in an attempt to stop from bleeding out, I was unable to take a breath. My brain knew I wasn't the one drowning in my own blood but my body didn't get the memo.
"Oh shit! Sorry!" Sadie mumbled, quickly flinging the guard onto the floor beside me, and replacing my line of sight with her bright red orbs. Blood ran down her chin, coating her neck and chest in the shinny liquid, making her look like a deadly warrior. Her black and green hair clung to the crimson streaks, that occasionally dripped onto my chest, but my entire focus was on the guilt she felt.
"It's okay Sadie." I rasp put after chocking and gasping for air a handful of times. The burning in my lungs finally easing after a moment.
"No! Shit Jaycee it's not, I forgot. I'm so sorry I should have reacted quicker."
"All is forgiven, thanks for saving me." I say knowing without Sadie I would probably be dead. "Even after all my training, I sometimes freeze up."
"It's to be expected after everything you have been through Jay. You have been abused and belittled for so long it's amazing you survived all this time at all." There was no guilt just awe and pity in her gaze. She meant every word.
"I assume you have powered up." I say looking at the first guard who's skin was pale. two puncture wounds was the only sign of death on his neck. She smiled. "Yep good as new." Sadies smile dropped as we heard more footsteps fast approaching.
"Hey do you smell that?" Another guard spoke from around the corner.
"Mmm, it smells heavenly, it's coming from this way." The other replies as the two guards round the corner. To my surprise their gaze hadn't once strayed to the lifeless bodies at our feet, instead they both stared at me with the black eyes of their wolves. Before I could question the thick desire and arousal hitting me from all angles, three more guards appeared.
"Shit, your luring them here Jay!" Sadie cursed eyeing the five guards looking hungrily at me. She grabs my hand bringing my attention back to her. "I'm sorry I have no choice." As I feel her worry and determination, black smoke encases our forms transporting us far from the current danger awaiting us.
Salvator's POV:
It took Alexa and a red head named Ember, twenty minutes to dispose of all the dead bodies. Fire burned their flesh, leaving nothing more than charred bones and patches of sizzling grass in their place. Another girl names River used her water magic to put out the embers, coating the clearing in dark tendrils of smoke. The scent was overpowering especially since it had been so long until I allowed myself this luxury. Thanks to all the blood I have consumed my senses were sharper than ever.
Just as we finished, Byron the wolf council leader showed up with ten wolves ready to fight. His eyes widened as he took us all in. The hybrids we rescued no longer trembled with fear at the small taste of freedom they had, but now wore looks of determination on their faces. Realising how outnumbered they were, and their lack of back up, they hastily retreated the way they came, with their tails between their legs.
The sun set, leaving the stars and full moon to shine its silvery light upon the clearing. Alessia and Crim volunteered to escort the hybrids to the safe house where their families awaited them.
Alessia would be able to identify any lost hybrids who made it close, but hadnt an idea of where to go next. She promised not to need any further assistance since Alexa cloaked most of them already.
Many laughed excitedly at their new found freedom, as they followed the Royal vampire pair. Excitement at seeing their families after so long was contagious, and had most of Zander and Alexa's warriors mirroring their expressions.
Alexa had used her magic to assist the more wounded men to the camp. I watched as a dazzling bright blue net moved under the wounded warriors. It slithered quickly encasing them in a protecting net as it moved from sight. Ed and Ella lead the small group of remaining warriors who were capable of walking, as Alexa, Zander, Jet, Coal and I trailed protectively behind the group.
"Viren, you need to turn left and come find me. It urgent, hurry!" I recognised Nala's voice in my mind calling out to me. She said she wouldn't interfere today so it must have been something important for her to reach out to me.
My feet stopped moving before Nala had finished talking. Zander, Alexa, Coal, and Jet all stopped noticing my odd behaviour.
"Something wrong I can feel it too." Alexa's words did nothing to slow my frantically beating heart. Not wasting time to explain, I darted off to the left towards the tall thick trees. I hear Alexa ask Zander and Coal to continue on, leaving Alexa and Jet to follow me.It was pitch black now, the branches so thick and tightly intertwined that not even the moonlight could penetrate the surface below. My beast and I worked as a team using our heightened senses to dodge large roots and fallen tree trunks. My legs moves at a ridiculously fast pace. I didn't care the Jet wasn't able to keep up with Alexa and I, I knew I was already on borrowed time.
A heavenly scent of vanilla and honey had me loose focus. My foot catches on a raised root but before I could hit the ground a blast of magic pushed me back onto steady ground. I nod appreciatively towards Alexa, noticing how her eyes and skin glowed at her use of her magic. Orbs of light began to circle us lighting our way and I noticed she had sent some toward Jet as he tried to catch up.
After a moment I felt Nala's familiar energy nearing, and noticed the enticing scent was growing impossibly strong. Rushing water caught my attention next as I ran along a river, ignoring the splashes of water as they crashed unforgivingly into large boulders resting in the deep river bed.
Desperate screams called out to us for help and it was then I saw Sadie hanging from a thin tree branch, dangling over the rough waves. She spotted us and was trying to get out attention. My brows furrowed noticing her pointing below. My eyes lowered not able to see anything but my nose was telling me the honey and vanilla scent was originating from a spot directly under Sadie where a large boulder sat. I felt drawn to the spot.
"Trust your gut!" Alexa yells as she stumbles to the ground catching her breath. She had used most of her energy earlier, and mentioned not wanting to risk tapping into Zanders not knowing if he and the others were safe. She had used her powers to fight, transport the wounded, help slow everyone's bleeding, cloaking the hybrids, and burning the dead bodies. She had exerted herself before she followed me at full speed here, leaving her weak and needing time to rest.
Determined, I dived into the icy cold water. The current threatened to wash me away every chance it got. My ribs burned as I smashed into underwater rocks and trees as I swap further into the river, but I ignored the shooting pain focusing my attention on the large boulder. I reached out instinctively, successfully grabbing hold of thick wet fur. I couldn't see it, but could smell and feel it. I gasped in shock at the familiar feeling of sparks as the water mercilessly slammed us flat against the boulder.
"Jaycee." Her name was a relieved whisper on my lips as i tried to keep her afloat. Conserving her energy and breaths Jaycee hadn't said a word and I wondered how long she had been fighting against the icy current.
Sadie's scream drew my attention upwards. The branch had begun to split in half, her weight encouraging the fragile wood to break off completely. Just as I gasp for air, awaiting the onslaught from above, a figure slams into her. The force was enough to push her body onto the dry sand on the far opposed end of the revivers edge.
I focus on my desire to save Jaycee, garnering as much magic as I could muster through my shallow spluttering breaths.
"Adscendo" I yell out feeling our bodies ascend, my magic fights against gravities pull, ignoring the control the strong currents are demanding. It takes us ten slow seconds to make it over to where Jet is cradling Sadie. Floating two meters above the ground, I feel the protective bubble around us, prematurely burst. Flinging Jaycee's weakened body above my own, we crash heavily onto the hard floor knocking me out cold.
