Jaycee's POV:
"I can feel him through our bond, he feels so guilty Jaycee. He thinks this is all his fault and is blaming himself. It was my wolf that marked him first. He had warmed us, said if we mark him he won't be able to stop his dragon and that it was too dangerous. Jaycee, he warned us that he wasn't ready and we didn't listen."
Tears well up in Laylas bright green eyes and she lays her head heavily in my chest. As a hiccup leaves her lips Coal's dragon's head whips our way so fast that his spinning is thrown off.
His wings spread out keeping him in the same position, while maintaining aeyes on Layla's back. His head was tilted to the side, not believing what he ears and eyes were hearing and seeing.
Layla turns her head towards her mate, the urge to look at him stronger than the exhaustion threatening to pull her under it's icy grasp.
As their eye connect and with an impressive move, he drops from the sky. His large green wings tuck into his sides as he descends faster than more eyes could track, especially since the sun still hadn't begun to rise.
Impressively he shifts in mid air, dropping the final five meters without the help of his resided wings.
He nails the landing. His knees bend the same moment his bare feet land on the cliff top sending a few loose rocks down the rocky edge.
Coals eyes haven't moved from Layla's, not even to blink. He takes two steps forward with his arms stretched towards her before pausing, a frown on his face. I look in his eye as feel his sadness, unworthiness and guilt."Coal." Layla smiles reaching a shaky hand towards her mate. Coals eyes widen as if surprised she wanted him near her. His face softens and his eyes turn glassy as he takes the last step forward gently wrapping her in his arms, taking her out of my grasp.
I hear Layla sigh into Coal's chest and feel her pain lessen from his contact, before closing her eyes.
"Your touch takes away most of her pain." I advise Coal who nods, not bothering to glance back up at me. Too transfixed in his living breathing mate. He held her as if she was made of glass and I smiled fondly at the two."I'm so sorry." He says before burying his face in the crook of Layla's neck. He takes in her scent and I turn my back to leave the couple have their moment.
"Thank you." Coal whispers, his eyes finally landing on my own as I turn my head to the side meeting his gaze. The gratitude in them alimony brought tears to my eyes. I smile not that he could see it now that his eyes were back on his mate.
Leaving the cave I take a deep breath wanting nothing more than my own mate.
"I wonder if he is awake yet?" I say to Frost.
"I hope so." She says as we make our way back to Viren's room. I frown realising it was still locked from the outside. That's right.. aunty Alessia transported us out of Coal's room and in front of the cave. I sigh before turning away. I'll just get the spare key from my father.
"Jaycee?" I turn to see Viren standing by the door holding it open for me. "What are you doing outside? I woke up to find you not here, then caught your scent outside the door."I open my mouth to reply, but freeze. I was powerless to stop my eyes as they wonder slowly down his firm bare chest, continuing their journey down the deep grooves of his abs. All Viren's muscles looked larger, stronger than before and I blush my gaze lowers.
The only thing he wore was a black, extremely tight fitting boxer brief. By the time my gaze returned to his face, I was a new shade of red. Viren smirked, amusement clear in his...
"Uhh!!" I gasped, unable to lift my jaw off the ground.
...
"Why are you looking at me like I just grew two heads?" He asks before squinting his eyes in pain. "And what's with this intense headache? It's like I've walked into a nightclub, my head is so noisy."
My eyes widen starting to make sense of everything. "Firstly I think you should come into the bathroom." I say grabbing hold of his hand as he closes the bedroom door behind us. Walking towards the mirror we both stop. Viren's mouth pops open most likely the same way kind did as he took in his appearance.
Bright purple eyes, the exact shade of his beautiful hair, stare back at him. "How?" He asks, his voice just above a whisper.I frown. "I think it's because of me. When my mother and my father completed the mating process, both of them changed. My mothers hair changed, as well as her magic reserve, and my fathers wolf as well as his speed and strength changed. Maybe this is your side effect from my mark?"
I watch as he winces again, this time while looking directly at me. I smile feeling the familiarity of it.
"Why are you smiling? I think I'm loosing my mind."
I laugh. "Don't worry, you havn't lost your mind, you've just gained a few hundred more." My wolf replies, her voice coming out deeper than my own. "Everyone in the pack can feel the connection between us, and is welcoming you to the pack."
"How did that happen? Coal and I were the only ones who refused to be bonded to the pack? There was no exchanging of blood or any ceremony?"
I raise my eyebrows. "Last I checked you took more than a few drops of my blood when leaving your mark on me." I giggle unable to help myself when realisation lit up his features. "It's also due to me being the packs Alpha, it automatically links you to the pack now that we are mated."
"What about Coal?"
"Coal wont be automatically pack unless he chooses to join. It is due to other mates potentially being higher rank than a Beta. If Coal was an Alpha, Layla would automatically join his pack and leave ours, however being that Coal isn't from this world and Layla isn't an Alpha it's different."
Viren begins to pace, his movements faster than I was used to. I think he too noticed the difference and looked himself over again in the mirror. His eyes widen slightly as he takes in his firmer and bulkier muscles.
"Guess I'm going to need new clothes." Viren grumbles before his shoulders drop. "Please don't take this the wrong way darling, but I don't think I can help run this pack. I don't know the first thing about being a wolf leader. I'm half vampire and half wizard-"
I cut off my mates rambling, not offended in the slightest. "You don't need to worry, it's only for a short while. Ive been training for this role all my life, and still don't feel right for the job. I told my father I don't want to be Alpha permanently. Call it a feeling but we're both meant for something else. Please just help me for a little while, you need to trust me."
Viren smiles. "With my life."
