Coal's POV:

Night was upon us and the nocturnal creatures were scurrying around the forest looking for their next meal. The leaves rustled in the cool breeze allowing a state of tranquility to overcome me.

I manage to make Salvator and I, a makeshift shelter however it would only hold a night or two with the storm fast approaching. The vines I found were perfect for securing the logs and tree trunks together and the dried up leaves and grass made for a perfect roof once secured expertly to the main structure. The back of the shelter rested along a large boulder ensuring our backs were protected.

An hour passed before I heard Salvator's almost silent footsteps approaching the fire I made. Unlike his silent footsteps the deer and two pigs he was dragging behind him, had every creature near us, scurry into the distance.

I raise my brow at the gloomy look on his face. He looks as though someone has placed the world on his shoulders. I watch in silence as he guts and cleans the deer before using his claws to slice large portions of meat and bone. He uses large leaves of some sort, and vines to wrap the meat up with some wild herbs he no doubt picked up along the way.

"That's a lot of meat for two people isn't it?"

Salvator's bright red eyes look my way, glowing brightly with the eyes of his beast. They look surreal in the dark where we sit hidden far beneath the moons rays.

"No, once you shift I hear you will need twice this amount."

Surprise lit up my features before I could stop the reaction but I didn't care. How did he know this if I am the first dragon he has met? As if sensing my thoughts he continued taking a seat beside me. When the last piece of meat was secured above the fire using sticks, he turned to me with a serious look on his face.

"Coal, you know I trust you, so please don't get offended with what I am about to say or how it might come across." I nod confused at the direction this conversation is going in. "We both know if you were to shift out here you would attract attention of everyone, enemy and ally. You would also become a huge target for Jeff and the council members who will try to capture you and add you into their plans to breed more powerful hybrids. We can't let that happen."

I nod again having already thought about it. "I know Salvator, but I have already kept my dragon locked away for too long, and with Layla's heat I won't have a choice. I appreciate you being out here with me but maybe it's time you head back to camp they will soon notice us gone. Once I change I'll fly far away and Jeff and the others won't know my human form to track me down. I'll lead them in the opposite direction and try to eventually find my way back to you. It just may take a few weeks depending on how far I fly."

"We don't have a few weeks Coal. I will need to make an appearance back to Margo and Jeff. If I don't give them something concrete like the camp I have been held captive against my will, they won't believe me and we both know how they eliminate threats. I also need to find the location of the second camp. Without it many more hybrids will be used and abused and everything I've worked so hard for will be for nothing. We have a week tops and you helped me anytime I've asked for it, it's only right I do the same it's just.."

Salvator looks at me before swallowing as if the words he needs to speak will cause him pain. "It's just what?" I ask.

"I have a way to help you have a safe place to phase. One that will allow you to go undetected, however if I give you this information and something goes wrong, I would be putting a dear friend of mine in jeopardy. If this secret gets out it won't just be your life and my life on the line, they will kill her too."

I suck in a sharp breath and I sit there speechless, taking in the seriousness of the situation. "I thought I was your only friend?" A small smile tugs up Salvator's lips at my attempt to lighten the mood.
