Jaycee's POV:

It had been four days since Layla ran out on me and three days since I apologised. I explained how stupid I felt and how sorry I was for blurting all that out. To my surprise she forgave me and went on to tell me how she met her mate, but that it wasn't the wolf council member Byron.

Both Layla and I were confused and couldn't make sense of it. The only thing I could say to explain it, is that Viren's injection may have worked on me but maybe had no effect on Layla making her believe the lie, that Byron was in fact her mate. What didn't make sense was that her first memory of Byron was painful and involved him raping her, and only after the second encounter with him did she feel the mates pull and sparks. She also claimed his character was completely different when she compared her first time with him, against all the other times and felt like something wasn't right.

Layla's heat had also been triggered the day mine stopped, meaning we had to spend an even longer time at this temporary camp. We couldn't risk moving a wolf in heat and attracting other wolves. It was safer to stay where we were. It would take to much energy for mum to move a constant barrier as we traveled, especially now that she has been sick. I've caught her looking extremely pale and weaker than her usual self. Dad has also been hovering over her protectively and I can feel the stress and panic in his eyes when he looks my way. He is worried about mum, more than worried.

"Is the Luna feeling better Alpha?" I hear Stuart ask my dad respectfully. Stuart had been standing guard outside my tent for the last two days now that my heat had stopped. He made extra effort to avoid Layla's tent after Dad had to knock him out on the first day of her heat. "I caught Luba Alexa throwing up by the tree near the northern barrier early this morning, she didn't look too good."

There was silence on the other side before my fathers footsteps hurriedly moved towards his tent.

"So Jay have you figured out what made you turn invisible when you fell into the river?" I turn my attention to Sadie who had been keeping me company while Layla had Cassy and both our mothers hat tending to her. There was also this sweet witch Magista who helped treat many wounded and was amazing with potions. She only visited me once but her emotions were refreshing. Rather than pity like most were showing me, she radiated a loving warmth with splashes of joy and curiosity. It was impossible not to smile at her. She had been helping mum and aunt Alessia with bringing Layla's fever down.

"At first, I thought it had something to do with the water, but now I'm wondering if it had more to do with the moon." I admit. My mother is able to harness the power of the sun and the moon and from what I remember, water was the element of healing, and used as a form of defensive magic. Maybe the combination of both water and the moon had helped to conceal my wolf. It makes sense when taking into account my ability to heal my body and memories, as well as my mothers ability to turn invisible.

Sadie smiled and quickly cast her eyes to the floor, but she wasn't quick enough. I caught the surprise and pride in her eyes.
I laugh, "Though you know the answer to that question already Sadie. Don't you?"

Her eyes meet mine and a subtle nod tells me all I need to know. "At the time it happened I freaked out, but since then I've been getting glimpses of your future. At first it was the way you can hide in water, especially when the moon is high, and the next always involved a certain person with an infinity for red leather."

I almost choked on my saliva when I caught sight of the blush painting Sadie's cheeks. "Where ever your mind just went, stop. I don't want to hear it, nor do I plan to entertain any thoughts about boys. They are all cruel and bad news. The only males I can stand besides my father is Jet and Max.
