Viren's POV
My mother took a slow quiet breath as my eyes landed on a man sitting beside her. He was a vampire I had never met before, however no doubt someone loyal to the ex King.
"Take a seat Viren, I have taken the liberty of already ordering food for the table." Serg says as he sits opposite me, on the other side of my mother. I take a seat calmly inspecting the silver knife between my fingers."I was under the impression we would be dining alone." I say in a curious however bored tone. I had to show I was not effected by having the others here, simply curious. "Yes well I do apologise for not informing you sooner, however this was a last minute thing. Besides you and Magista are already acquainted, and Fred here was my second in command while King. I assure you anything we speak about here today will stay between the four of us."
"I eye the man to my mothers right seeing his dark red eyes, and bald appearence. He appeared to be a strong warrior and would no doubt be able to kill my mother before I could jump the table should anything go wrong today.
" The pleasure is all yours." I say to the man. It was the exact words I used on my father many times, making him chuckle with amusement.
"Oh at least you are consistent Viren.""Yes I am nothing if not consistent." Half way through my sentence Serg moves his hand that was holding a silver blade. It took every ounce of my concentration to not track the movement as it lands between my mothers fingers. Her gasp of shock triggered something deep within me but there was no way I could let it show. I knew they were mates and that it would harm him to harm her, by now I was certain he figured that out. My eyes looked at the knife then at Serg before raising an eyebrow.
"And truly believable it seems." Serg says scrutinising my every reaction. I give him nothing no twitch of a finger, no elevated heart rate and no look of concern. It was completely opposite to my mother who's heart raced frantically, and despite the impressive emotionless mask she wore, and control she had over her steady libs, I could hear her adrenaline infused blood rushing through her veins. If my eyes weren't blue, and I hadn't taken my potion this morning I was positive I would have smelt her fear also. Being a witch there was only so much she could do despite her excellent poker face.
"I'm apologize Serg, I think I might be missing something here." I say trying to act nonchalant when all my beast and I wanted to do was jump the table and crush his windpipe.
"Enough!" He growls, the eyes of his beast flashing brightly as his hands slam down on the table. Cutlery rain down around him, clattering against eachother. After a deep breath he reigned in his emotions, and smoothed out the invisible creases on his suit jacket.
He was showing weakness, and for a ex King who had much control over his emotions, it meant he was truly enraged. "Enough with the lies Viren. I know enough to link the dots. I am no fool."
I raise a brow not saying a word. There was no way I would admit anything to him. I owed him nothing.
"When we first met.." He begins when he realises I wasn't going to speak. "You played your part well. You looked angry when I told you to spare her life, proceeded to almost drown her, which I'll admit had me nervous however you made one mistake."
Serg paused to build suspense, waiting for me to ask what my mistake was. To ask would be to admit there was one, so I stayed silent lifting an eyebrow. It seems to be my go to thing to do, to look unfazed yet impatient. "Everything was quite convincing, from the way she coughed and spluttered water, to the way her heart beat erratically. You didn't even track my fast movements when I ran around the house showing you were in face a wizard and not a vampire. There were three things however that had me confused. The first, was before you entered the house her fear was thick coating the atmosphere, and the second you arrived it had almost dissipated making the air light again. I would have ignored this small detail completely had you not lied to me which was the second thing.
When I asked you what she did to you, you walked towards her reaching into her dress pocket. You had pulled out a small vile that I knew wasn't there a few minutes before. You claimed she had taken something from you and you simply came back to retrieve it. What you didn't know, is my second in command was instructed to tie and gag her after searching her. He assured me all her pockets were empty apart from her phone, and that she was ready for me to conduct my interrogation."
