Coal's POV:

I run back to the room, my heart slamming in my chest as I tried but failed to hear my mates heart beat over the sound of the blood rushing though my veins. My breaths sounded loud like an echo in a small dark cave. Sweat had formed along my forehead and chest, and I had been biting my lips so hard it drew blood, yet I couldn't bring myself to care. Not when my mate was dying.

I make it through the bathroom stepping one foot into my room before freezing in my tracks.
Laylas body was surrounded by the same purple and blue magic that had exploded right through me, only seconds earlier.
Jaycees magic.

I breath in a shaky breath when I noticed the glow absorb into my mates unmoving form. My dragon watching keenly, hoping for some kind of miracle.

I stand there too stunned and shaken to move, as most of the remaining blood steaming down Layla's bruised and battered body, slides back the way it came. Her body rose sharply as her rib bone snapped into place. A near silent gasp leaving my mates lips from the pain, even while unconscious.

I rush to her side, a quivering mess. I place my hand on her forehead desperate for another sound. Any sound. My dragon and I want her to curse us, yell or do anything but sit here motionless.

Slowly some of the skin healed before my eyes, leaving black scabby scares in its place. A breath of relief left me as her heart began to beat slightly stronger than it was. Don't get me wrong, it was still slower than expected, but better than it had been.

Tears stream down our cheek, and all we could think about was how close we came to killing our mate. The only person apart from my parents, I've ever loved.
The silence was deafening, however I found myself focusing on the light sound of her beating heart, and the slow rhythmic breaths one makes when they are sleeping.

It was only now that my adrenaline had stopped flooding my bloodstream, that I felt the effects of the marking.

As my eyes become heavy I manage to lift the blanket over my mates naked form before collapsing beside her. I hadn't managed to climb beneath the blankets with her, however that was the least of my concerns as I allowed sleep to finally claim me.

...

Jaycee's POV:

I awake to the sounds of soft snores and the feeling of warm breath blowing strands of my hair into my face. Frowning I use my arms to push my body up off the bed, only to notice the firmness under my fingertips did not belong to sheets or blankets.
My eyes shoot open and a gasp leaves my drooling lips, as I noticed the vary exposed position we were in. My memory comes back to me and I smile looking down at my sexy mate's mark.

Feeling the ache in my hips, I look down blushing when I realise I was still wrapped around my mate in every way possible.

I pull myself off him, horrified as warm fluid begins to run down my legs. I gasp running faster making it to the toilet only to make a detour to the second door ensuring to lock it this time.
After doing my business, I take a quick shower. While drying myself I hear the handle of the second door rattle and sigh in relief that I had taken the time to lock it. My phone dings with a notification and I remember I had left it in the bathroom yesterday.

"Coal: Please come into my room when you are done. It's urgent."

I pause reading the message, my heart rate increasing as his words sink in. I exit the bathroom using our door and hastily throw on some clothes. I desire on black leggings and a blush coloured off the shoulder top, not bothering to put any socks or shoes on.

I open Coals door to find Coal standing there impatiently. Had he been waiting for me the entire time? I look him over from bottom to top assessing him. He seemed fine part from the shakes of his hands. As my eyes continue raising they pause on his neck. I gasp happily before my eyes land on his and my emotions flip.
