Chapter 30 - Friend Or Foe

Viren's POV:

The suns bright rays momentarily blind me as I open my eyes. On second thought, the bright light belonged to something else. It's power ancient. It took me a moment to adjust to my surroundings.

I was lying on grass, hidden in a forest beneath the tall trees. Above me was a dome made of blinding white flames. I sat up eyeing it closely. It was where the rare ancient power was emanating from. Behind it sat a small creature I had never seen before. It looked a mix between a frog and a lizard, but was the size of a cat. It watched me with unique yellow green eyes that held knowledge. It's arrow head tail occasionally swished by its Liz add like feet, it's skin rough and scaley.

A rough oval shaped stone was secured around its neck that I recognised. It was something we witches call black obsidian. It's a stone that used to be easily found but has overtime become extremely rare. Mum had told me stories about its fire power, and requirement when casing shape shifting spells, though I never paid close attention to her when she rambled about her love of ancient stones. 
One second turned into ten. When the creature failed to move I decided to get up. I take a deep breath before reaching out to the flames. They burnt the second my fingers grazed its surface. The creature tilted its head in what I can only describe as amusement. 
"Okay little guy, how about you help me out here. Clearly this is your doing as I can't hear anyone else around for miles. If my beast did something to scare you, I'm sorry."

The creatures head tilts the other way as if considering my words. In a flash, the small frog lizard creature transformed into a man. My legs buckled from the shock making me hit the floor beneath me. My eyes were wide. I really hadn't expected that. How is this even possible? 
The man smirked at my reaction to him. His hair was silver and shaggy, the tips brushing against his shoulders in the breeze. His scent reminded me of a camp fire. With a click of his fingers the dome was gone. 
"My name is Coal. It seems I would owe you a life debt, had you not also tried to kill me a few times after our escape."

"Nice to meet you Coal, I apologise for my beast, I am usually in more control. You may call me Salvator."

His one eyebrow raised, and he wore a bored expression on his face. "That can't be your real name." He stated. "Just when I thought we could become allies."

Now it was my turn to look at him like he was crazy. I began walking in the other direction before stopping. I had no idea where I was or which way led to home.

"It's this way." Coal said falling in step with me. "Look I know we just met, and you don't have reason to trust me, but I am here from somewhere far away. I can't say much because you won't believe me anyway, and it's too complicated for your mind to grasp at this point in time. All you need to know is I'm on your side. I believe our goals are the same. I was sent here and told to help a guy called, and I quote... "the saviour."

I glance his way before he continues "Salvator means Saviour in Latin." Coal says. "Quite the coincidence if you ask me."

"I know what it means Coal, I'm the one who came up with the name, but I don't see how this is my problem?" I sigh. My head was beginning to hurt. "I have enough to deal with without having to worry about you and what you've been sent here, from who knows where, to do."

Coal scoffs. "Fine.. I'll just follow you then. I'm sure you will lead me right where I need to go."

I grin preparing to run. I still had Jaycee's blood in my system energising me. 
"I know that look, your beast made it before-"

I hadn't let him finish before bolting through the trees faster than I have ever run before. I could really get used to this, I thought to myself. After three seconds my eyes widen at seeing Coal stand before me. I jump, in order to avoid a collision, and growled out in frustration.
