Viren's POV:
The next morning came quickly. Coal and I were packed and decided to have breakfast with everyone including Jessy before leaving. I had my sunglasses on as my eye colour began to change back to my usual bright blue, and I couldn't afford to raise questions. I ignored the curious looks everyone gave me for wearing them inside.
It didn't escape my notice that Alexa eyed the cup of blood I hadn't touched since last night. Water was the only option, I needed my eyes to revert back to blue for my arrival to Jeff's pack.
Jessy explained everything that happened to her and Jaycee that she could remember. Noticing the grim expressions on everyone's faces after the third mention of how creatively the guards tortured all the girls, she changed topic and went on to explain what happened to her the day before.
"After being attacked by the vampire council man named Serg, I almost died. I should have died."
"Serg, is family." Alessia growls in anger. Her fists shaking under the desk. "My guides have skilfully left this part of my visions out, obviously needing me to discover this at the right time. He is Crim's father, and my daughter Sandy's grandfather. He was the vampire King before handing the title down to Crim. I knew he was a strict man with little respect for the human race, but never did I expect this. Betraying even his own people. Some of the prisoners are vampire hybrids." Alessia growls out, her anger rising with every second. "Crim won't accept this, not on top of the most recent discovery." She looks my way, her hidden meaning clear to me.
Crim knows about me and his fathers betrayal, however what he doesn't know is that his father doesn't remember it. At least not yet anyway. He mustn't be ready to face me, which is why he isn't here. Suits me perfectly.
"It gets worse." Jessy's voice whispers, bringing our attention back to her. Everyone's stunned expressions looked the same. Everyone apart from Coal and myself. Now I was nervous."It's not just Serg, it all of them. Byron, from the wolf council, and Jeff is now part of the wolf council. Margo and Viren from the wizard council, as well as Serg and Draco from the vampire council. I felt Coal stiffen beside me as my name was spoken. "They are all in on it."
"Then we will kill them all." Zander growls out. I swallow down my nerves. Looks like I will have both sides coming for my head during the battle. This should be fun.
"This man Jeff." Max says eyes looking distant. Does he happen to have a tattoo on his middle finger?"
I noticed Jessy stiffen and her her widen.
"Jessy..?" Max coaxed her while rubbing soothing circles on her back, while she sat in his lap.
A single tear slid down her face, her lip quivering. "He used that finger.. he.. he did many things to me over the last week. I have that tattoo burned into my memory. How.. how did you know?"Max's body shook with rage, the slow soothing circles long forgotten as his hands moved to clutch the table on either side of her frail body. His claws had descended gripping the heavy wooden table making it groan.
"Max, you need to breathe, you're scaring your mate." Alexa's words were calm and sympathetic. She knew the right words to say to snap him out of his downward spiral.
"Sorry." He mumbled to Jessy, though it sounded strained. "My mother met her mate a few months before I was born. She was held prisoner and they caught him and threw him in the cell beside her. Their wolves recognised eachother instantly, but all they could do was hold hands through the small gaps in the silver bars. The next morning they murdered him before her eyes. The scars on her arms were all that was left as a reminder of him. The brief touches with her mate was enough to start her heat in the weeks following. The Rogue Alpha at the time, Jeff, had taken advantage of her heat, not caring of the consequences. If anything he enjoyed it more knowing she would suffer. She always spoke of the man named Jeff with the snake tattoo on his middle finger. Always begged me to stay away from him if I ever come across him. He abused her for a solid week before selling her to another group of rogues. It was a few months later that I was born. We managed to escape once, and a pack accepted us for a year while I was a baby. Unfortunately the rogues attacked the pack burning most of it to the ground. It was the same group that found us again. They were the ones who killed her in the end. She does protecting me. I always swore my father will pay when I find him. Zander, he is mine to kill. For my mother and for my mate."
