Coals POV:

The last hour had been a blur. Wolves and vampires from Crim and Alessia's Coven, worked together to assist with the clean up after the battle. I had been transported with Layla into a large meeting room in the pack house.

I held onto my beautiful but unconscious mate the entire time, growling at anyone who came too close. I was on edge since her heart beat had slowed a few hours ago, and the heat radiating off her was too much for others to handle.
My beast was still not speaking to me, but at least he stopped completely blocking out the world around him. Growling at people, was my only reminder that he was still here.

The little energy he had left after trying to share most of his with Layla, was used entirely on protecting our mate. I was sick of the pity in everyone's eyes. It was a useless emotion, one that angered me during this trying time. The only person who didn't look at me this way, was Sadie. The one time I growled at her, she growled back, her red eyes flashing in frustration.

"We are all just trying to help! Reign in that temper of yours before I tell Layla what a jerk you're being to everyone when she wakes up!"

The anger left my body instantly. She said when she wakes up. When. Not if. I think it was something my beast and I needed to hear. Someone else had hope, and she seemed to hold confidence in her words, even more so than I.

"Yeah well I'll just deny it. Who's she going to believe anyway? Her mate or you?" I scoffed, secretly enjoying this distraction. It was taking my mind away from the stares of pity. Pity was given when someone felt sorry for you. It was given because they all thought she wasn't going to make it. At least that's what it felt like.

Sadie full body laughed and I couldn't help but frown.  "Yeah.. why would she not believe a girl she has known since she was two. The same girl she knows how to read like a book. Layla would know if I was lying no matter how hard I try to hide it. So all I have to do it say the truth. Even if I leave out or twist parts of it, as long as it's true she will believe me. You growl, you snap your teeth, you even threw a glass and made someone else clean up the mess!"

"Hey! I snapped my teeth for good reason and that glass wasn't thrown towards anyone, there was a stupid fly on the wall buzzing around my ear every three seconds, and I refused to take my hands off my mate to keep scaring it away. I got it by the way... with that glass."

Sadie shrugged. " Unnecessary details. Layla will have you sleeping by the door mat by the time I'm done."

I cracked a grin, the first one in a long time. "Thank you." I said honestly. She knew what she was doing, and it worked. I didn't know when it started, but slowly I had been loosing hope, and Layla could most likely feel through our bond.
As the pain around my heart lessened brought for me to breath.. even if it was only slightly, I saw Layla's eyelids flutter.

"You are definitely sleeping by my door mat." She whispers. Sadie and I let out a surprised laugh.

Unfortunately for me, along with my laugh came the flow of tears that began to fall from my traitorous yellow green eyes.

"Mate." My beast growled bringing Layla closer to our chest, his movements slow and gentle, as if she was made of glass. "We will sleep on your door step every night if you just.. stay." We whisper unable to hold back the pain from seeping into our voice.

A single tear slides from her eye down the curve of her cheek. "Always." She says before her eyes flutter shut once more. She was tired. I could feel it through our growing bond, but at least she was hanging on. It was everything.
"Okay everyone listen up!" I hear Zander's voice fill the large room. "Magista has successfully managed to track your Luna to the last camp. It's not an exact location but it has narrowed it down a lot compared to the general location we received from Margo's folder. Margo was smart not to provide the exact coordinates, but I believe we have a good shot at surprising them. The last thing they will expect is for us to revel and locate them so soon.
