Jaycees POV:After two laps around the packs border lines, dad divided the groups into three. Ed and dad were in charge of duels in human form, taking with them all the young or newly shifter wolves. Mum and aunt Alessia were training magic wielders on attack, as well as non magical warriors on defence against those with magic. Max was in charge of duels in wolf form.
Standing beside Max was a face I thought I'd never see again. Her black curly hair was held by a hair clip, her chocolate smooth skin looked much healthier than I remember it, and her beautiful hazel eyes were full of life. A sharp contrast to the last time a started into them.
Tears immediately sprang to my eyes at the memory, my emotions becoming too strong to ignore. The last time I had seen Jessy, her blood was drained and her body was pale, limp and dying. I didn't know if my healing magic was strong enough to save her at the time. All I knew was that Layla managed to place her body under a tree in the forest, on the odd chance she survived.Walking towards her, I couldn't stop the tears falling from my eyes. She turned catching my form approaching, before tears began filling her hazel orbs, mirroring my own emotions.
"I.." I hiccuped struggling through the large lump that suddenly appeared in my throat. "I wasn't sure if..."Jessy embraced me in a tight hug, my face lost in a sea of tight curls. I took in her scent committing it to memory. She nodded understanding what failed to covey with words.
"You.. you saved me." Jessy sobbed. "Because of you I found my mate." She says happily, joy radiating off her.My eyes widened only now taking notice of how close Max was standing to Jessy. I smiled happy for my best friend who was more like a protective brother to me. My eyes lowered landing on her protruding baby bump. I looked between the two, joy filling me at the idea of being an aunty.
Just before I could utter my congratulation's I caught the anger in Max's eyes sucking the air from my lungs. His swift change of emotions hitting me like a freight train, when he noticed my line of sight.
My heart began to race as my stomach sunk realising the timeline. She was too far along for the baby to be Max's.
A serge of protectiveness washed over me, and I wasn't sure if it was Max's, my own or both. As someone's hand lands forcefully on Jessy's shoulder from behind, spinning her roughly into the opposite direction, blue lightning shoots out of my chest reacting to the spike in my pulse. Zapping towards the intruder unintentionally, I gasp as time slows allowing me to see Cassy's widened fearful eyes.A flash of red is all I see before Cassy is turned and thrown backwards. I hear a groan realising someone took the blast and the brunt of the fall only for my heart to sink.
"Salvator."
I gasp rushing over, too shocked by Salvator's actions, to notice the way the crowed parted for me.
"What was that Jaycee?" Cassy groaned holding the side of her head. Lucky for her she had only hit a rock, unlike Salvator who took the brunt of my magic.
"I'm so sorry Cassy I didn't mean to, I thought someone was attacking Jessy and hadn't seen you until the last minute." I say hoping she would understand.
Cassy frowned but nodded her head. "Yeah guess I acted too quickly. I was shocked and desperate to see this one still alive and hadn't meant to startle her. Sorry I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me."
"You're welcome.." Salvator mumbled to Cassy before stumbling to his feat.
"Oh yeah, thanks. I have to ask.. why did you take that hit for me?"
