Coal's POV:

Ed growls in frustration for the tenth time in the last minute, making me growl back with annoyance.

"My mate is trying to sleep! What could be so bad that you are growling so much?" I grit our in annoyance. Why did they have to order Ed to stay here instead of Max? I wondered, seemingly missing the calmer of the two temporary betas.

"They made it to the location on Jaycees tracker..." Ed says glancing my way.

"That's a good thing isn't it?"

"Not when there is an unpenetrable barrier surrounding the camp, rough tidal waves on one side of the camp and sharp protruding jagged rocks on the other. They definitely knew how to secure the place!"
"Out.. side." Layla wakes up groaning. She was using every bit of energy she had to speak, which wasn't a lot.

I frown. "Please.. take me." At our mates desperate begging, my dragon and I stand and rush out the doors. The moons brightness assaults my vision making me flinch for a moment. I also felt a familiar presence behind me. It felt as though I was being watched, however I brushed the feeling off, needing to focus on my mate.

Layla rolls herself out of my arms before I could stop her, and growls at me in warning as I stumble towards her. My eyes widen as her wolf flashes in her eyes.

Her head raises to the sky, and I watched the way her breathing was slow and heavy. Her long onyx hair moved in the light breeze and the green in her eyes glowed brightly. She was truly a goddess bathed in moonlight.

A loud snap sounds. I flinch not expecting it. My heart rate skyrockets as I feel my mates pain through our bond before she blocks me. I watch in shock as blood drips from her broken nose, reforming into a long black snout, healing immediately. Every one of her muscles stretched and protrudes the wrong way for a wolf, making me gasp. I run to her side placing a comforting hand on the side of her face.

I noticed the way her body relaxed into my touch, helping the transformation process speed up.
Thousands of questions were running through my mind, but the main one was what have I done to my mate? I didn't voice any of them out loud though, not when I knew she wouldn't be able to answer them anyway.

Ed gasps as he catches up to us in the training field. His eyes were wide but thankfully he was just as speechless as I. We both watched in horror as Layla tried to stand on her back two legs. They lengthened to twice the size of an Alpha wolf.
The fur growing on her flesh seems more straw like. It was thick and black like her hair, and when her eyes opened I gasped at the familiarity of it. Her eyes were the same shade of green as before, only brighter, larger and her aura felt much stronger.

Our necks were bent upwards as we took in her new height. She stretched up to the moon before letting out an earth shaking howl.

"What.. is she?" Ed breathed, his voice quaking with amazement and a hint of fear as he catches sight of her long black claws.
I take in a sharp breath, my eyes drinking in every detail before answering. "Something your world has never seen before. She is.. a Lycian.

Laylas eyes pierce through mine and my breath hitches in my throat. "Grow to my size." She demands through our mindlink. My dragon and I don't hesitate to follow her command.
Her teeth elongate before she bites down on our neck, over her existing mark. I felt the way power flowed through me like never before as our bond intensified.

"What is happening?" Ed asks still in shock.

I shrink back to my human form and Layla does the same. Ed throws her his shirt since both of ours shredded to pieces. I held in my growl at another man's scent on my mate, but reminded myself I'd rather her be covered.
