Viren's POV:
I spent the next ten minutes dropping Jaycee back in her cell, and advising Jeff I will be away for a few days because something has come up.
When I was in the safety of my car, I waisted no time exiting Jeffs pack. The last thing I needed was someone picking up on my scent or noticing my beasts eyes when the potion wears off. Worst thing of all is the hunger that will hit me shortly. It's a side effect of the potion. It's why I only use it to get myself out of trouble.
My phone rings, bringing my attention to Margo's name on the screen. Using the car radio I answer the call, lowering my visor as the setting sun momentarily blinds me."Margo."
"Viren, how's things going with project Consilium admissura?"
"Everything is running on track and should be ready by Friday as requested.""Good. Anything I need to know?"
"Yes, I have been meaning to speak to you about Jeff."
"Continue." I didn't miss the interest in Margo's tone. It was always safer to be open with Margo, as there are times he knew more than he led on.
"I thought you would like to know that Jeff is easily manipulated and bribed. He is capable of switching sides if it meant prolonging his life."
Margo snorts, though the sound was forced. "Tell me so thing I don't know. What did you find out?"
"Nothing I didn't already suspect. I recognised a few pack members on the outskirts of the prison and realised this was one of the packs you were sending the hybrids to, after their trial. It was easy to convince Jeff that you had told me about it and didn't take me long to get the confirmation." The silence on the other end of the phone lasted two seconds longer than usual. Margo was annoyed.
"I understand your annoyance Margo, really I do. We are on the same side after all. You are lucky it was me who discovered this as I would hate for this information to fall into the wrong hands. Too much is at stake now more than ever. We are so close to completing years worth of planing, hard work and waiting. I do have one request if I may?"
"Go on." Margo's reply was short and sweet. I knew I to play my card right.
"Don't punish Jeff, or let him believe you have been made aware. I have something in the works to test his loyalty now that he has been reminded of his place. We still need him after all., and he knows we are the ones pulling the strings. I want to see how far these strings stretch."
"Indeed." Margo sounded thoughtful. "You haven't let me down yet Viren and I knew it was only a matter of time before you tied some of the loose ends together. I will admit I was pleasantly surprised you figured it out so quickly."
"Yes well it's Jeff we are talking about so I won't flatter myself." I reply nonchalantly.
"Indeed, though I must say he has been useful up until now. One question, what did you demand in return for your silence and for delaying his untimely end?"I smile wishing I could see his face as I speak. "Oh nothing much, just the maid I walked in on him about to rape. He did seem rather fond of her. One more second and I would have had to advise you of an execution. Lucky for him I showed up when I did."
"Viren which girl did he promise you?" Margo's words were sounded calm and unfazed but I knew better. I knew he wanted Jaycee for himself but revealing that to me would be a weakness. A soft spot I would know about. The only way to survive this long playing this game is to have none.
I smirk. "The one who's all scared up, disobedient and malnourished. Come to think of it, it probably wasn't a smart choice. If anyone would struggle to conceive it would be her with all her body has gone through."
