Jaycee's POV:

I couldn't believe my eyes. Out of nowhere a large wolf like beast jumps in the centre of the clearing. As it's head turns my way I felt all of its emotions. Particularly love and protectiveness. There was also an unsettling feeling of desire to be accepted but it was so small I had to focus to feel its The familiar strength of this beasts emotions, reminded me of someone.

"Layla." I whispered watching as a small smile appeared on her face before she gave me a quick nod.

She made quick work grabbing hold of all the enemies before me, throwing them to one side in the distance. I watched in shock and awe as creatures I had never seen before, took to the sky's. They were mostly invisible, but I could see one of them clearly. She was their leader, I wasn't sure how I knew it but I did. I felt drawn to her bright green eyes and realised my mate was feeling protective and love towards her.

My wolf growled, jealously filling us before I calmed Frost. "No.. Viren loves us differently, there are different types of love like with that of friend, a sibling, a parent and a lover. We need to trust our mate." I say calming her down.

The moonlight caught their armed bodies and I watched in fascination as many swooped from the sky grabbing warriors and witches alike, before throwing them in the same direction as Layla's victims.

The one I spotted from earlier landed before me, her head bowed low as her wings splayed out before me making me feel small.

"You are Viren's mate. Please climb on, my people and I are here to help. My name is Nala."

I watched in shock clearly hearing her soft voice in my mind without seeing her mouth move. She was using her mind to speak with us.

"Mate, please trust her!" I hear Viren say through our link. "I'll explain everything later."

It was all the reassurance I needed to climb on her back. She sprang up using her powerful legs covered in muscle and armour that sparkled as the moonlight illuminated it.

"Oh no you don't!" Margo yells, hurling a large black and purple ball of electricity our way.
My eyes widened at its speed. There was no way she would be able to dodge the attack in time, and it was clear Margo was in control of its trajectory.

Before bracing myself for impact, expecting to fall off Nala's back and crash towards the earth below, another creature jumps in front of it shielding me. I gasp as it hits her, and I'll never forget the way her bright pink eyes widened in pain, yet the main emotion I felt from her was relief. She was relieved she saved Nala and I.

Nala screams, her pain so raw as she watches the way the other creature falls unconsciously towards the ground. Her movement becomes frantic as though wanting to change course towards her fallen friend.. no daughter. Daughter felt right.

A loud growl shakes the earth louder than all the others. I realise who it belongs to as Coal emerges in all his glory. Huge black scales shimmering with an emerald green much like his mates eyes. Every scale repels the moonlight making him look like pure shadow. It reminded me much of my father wolf Shadow.

He slows under the falling creature who saved us, managing to manoeuvre himself so she lands smoothly between his wings.

his eye glow a startling shade of gold, swallowing the green I usually see in Coals human form. His rage and fear are stronger than I expected.

"He cares for this creature." Frost says reading his emotions.

"Yes, and if I am correct our mate also cares for Nala." I reply.

Coal's scorching flames cracked agaist the pile of guards and witches, devouring their screams. I had to look away, not wanting to feel any of it. I know in war death is inevitable, but I didn't have to enjoy it.
