Jaycees POV:
Saturday came, and after enjoying the warm luxury of the spa the days prior, the cold showers felt cooler. Shivers racked my body and even the towels felt like sandpaper against my smooth skin. I scoff at my thoughts knowing full well not to get used to the nice treatment. Nothing is for free.
Layla and I effortlessly whizzed around eachother as we filtered through the kitchen. Casey was here helping us as the other girls were tasked with setting cutlery, plates and placing chairs against the tables. Stuart walked in, confusion marred his face before he addressed us.
"Jeff has an announcement to make. He requests everyone, including you three to join us in the dinning room." My eyebrows rose. The last time this happened was when one of the guards was murdered for raping a maid before she had become a bedwarmer. I shiver at the memory, the feeling of death was one of the worst I had felt.Cassy, Layla and I exchanged wary glances, my eyes taking seconds to admire both their red and bright green eyes which contrasted well against their dark hair. We followed Stuart's lead. The other girls had arranged the large array of fruits, pancakes and juices on the buffet tables to the left of the room. We took a stance beside them, joining the line of girls.
A silences encased the large room, curiosity and confusion were the common emotions in everyone's eyes as the guards and guests glanced around. Jeff stood at the front of the room besides two council members I recognised. One named Margo who was in charge of the witch council stood to Jeff's right, and the other belonged to the vampire council. I froze noticing the resemblance he had to Viren. He sharp jaw line and facial structure was almost exact. How I hadn't noticed it before, I don't know."Good morning everyone, I have a short announcement to make. Myself and Margo here, will be travelling for the weekend. Serg, one of the Vampire council members has agreed to look after things in my absence. Everyone is to follow his every command, and anyone who doesn't..." as Jeff pauses, Serg grabs hold of one of the bed warmers Jessy, with lightning speed before his fangs descend. He bites down hard into her neck before I had a chance to shut my eyes.
I gasp in pain.. the sound drowned out by others gasps of shock around the room. Burning needles shoot from the junction between my neck and shoulder, travelling down to my entire body paralyzing me entirely. Against my better judgment I was unable to breath, unable to cut the link between the girl who stood screaming before me, and myself. Her teary wide eyes locked with mine, communicating a silent plea. Help.
Layla's hand gripped my own, though I hardly noticed it through all the pain and my urning lungs begging me to inhale. She used our connected hands to forcefully manoeuvre my stiff form towards her, effectively spinning my view. Worry yet calmness flowed through me as she looked directly into my eyes. She knew what she was doing as if she had done it many times before. She replaced the breathtaking pain that consumed me, with her own feelings allowing me to connect to her and calm my frantic heart.
"Well.. he may just decide to quench his thirst on you." Jeff says, though I was too busy focusing on Laylas deep slow breaths, mimicking her the best I could without drawing further attention.
Layla squeezed my hand when it was over allowing me to turn my head back towards Jeff and Serg. The satisfaction and enjoyment in his eyes were not surprising. It was clear this look alike was nothing like Viren. His gaze was cold, emotions bland. It was impossible for me not to compare them with all their similarities and differences. I did everything in my power to not look at the body slumped motionless on the ground. My body trembled filled with adrenaline, though I wasn't the only one, other quivered with fear. Paralyzing fear.
Once Jeff and Margo left, it didn't take long for the others to rush out of the room. Quiet sobs filled the bathrooms along with the sound of some girls and guards throwing up. It wasn't everyday we witnessed such a cruel sight. I took tentative steps closer to the girl on the floor. Her pulse hadn't stopped yet, though it was extremely weak. Why he hadn't drained her completely dry, was beyond me. Why let her die slow and painfully?
