Viren's POV:

I sped home after flinging my phone onto the passenger seat. I had tried calling mum after messaging Margo, however she didn't answer which was never like her.

My heart was racing, my thoughts were scattered, and I couldn't focus. This feeling of worry wasn't new to me, however it had been at least fifty years since I have felt it. We always had an agreement to answer each others calls straight away, and have grown used to our routines that have kept us safe over the years. This wasn't like her.

After pulling up the hand break and running to the front door I slammed it open, barging inside the dark house. I reacted too slow as a force threw me across the room, falling onto the back part of the couch making it flip over.
"You have some nerve coming to my home after all these years!" The sound of my mothers shaky voice confused me more than her words. "I will light you-"

"Mum?" I called out confused before peaking my head up from behind the couch. It was acting as a barrier, not that it would have done me any good when magic was involved.
My mother stood there frozen for a few seconds with wide eyes and trembling hands.

"Viren.. oh son.. I'm so-"

"It's okay, I'm okay mum. I'm sorry I normally change first. I called earlier, trying to let you know I had to-"

"Feed.. I can see that. I was worried sick about you especially after you not coming home last night." She approached me placing her hand against my left cheek.
It was the tears in her eyes that left me stunned for a moment. I closed my eyes, turning my face away from the comfort she provided. I always hid this side of me from her.
"You look so much like him you know." She said turning my face back towards her own.
"Is.. is that who you thought I was? You said earlier; you have some nerve coming to my home after all these years."

She nodded her head. "Viren... I saw him yesterday."

"Mum what do you mean you saw him yesterday? How?"

"I was working at the hospital in one of the maternity rooms and-" as mum spoke her pulse began to race.

"And what mum?" I asked flipping the couch back over so we could sit down.

"Margo walked in with a wolf council member and your father. He was showing them around and asking me questions about the facilities, as well as possible birth complications."

"Mum please tell me you didn't freak out or draw any attention to yourself."

She scoffed at my words, her expressions turning sharp and offended in an instant. "Viren, you forget who taught you all you know."

"Sorry mother but there is one thing you never could teach me. One thing that took me years to master." I reply worried where my thoughts have strayed.
"Whats that son?"

"Your heart beat. The wolf may have smelt your fear, and summed it up to you being a fearful witch. Father on the other hand, no matter how good your poker face was, would have sensed the change in your pulse, and the speed of your blood rushing through your veins. He would know it wasn't just fear you felt but anger, towards him. Or if not anger any another emotion. He would have been able to differentiate between the two. My point is, your reaction to him would have peeked his curiosity."

"Well then, let's hope he ignores his curiosity." Mum replies unconvinced.
"You should have called me mum, you know no matter what I'll always be here when you need me."

"I know but in my haste to escape the room I left my phone there. It's why I couldn't reach you and why you couldn't reach me. I'll go and get in on Monday, I have a few days off to spend with my favourite boy."
