Viren's POV:

Mum, Coal and I sat enjoying breakfast and spoke a little of the old days. Mum shared many stories that I would have been more than happy to keep secret.
Coal laughed at my expense, as mum spoke about the times my potions and spells backfired and went horribly wrong. "I know its quite common for things to go wrong while learning to harness magic, but even so.." Coal laughed between words. "I have never come across someone who accidentally turned themselves into a woman for a few hours." Yep.. now he was rolling on the floor not caring how dirty it was.
The laughter that emerged from both Coal and my mother was uplifting despite the outward scowl I wore on my face. I had to even suppress my beasts laughter a few times who also found the memories uplifting.

"Hey I was young and wanted to understand more about girls!" I defend. "This happened after I tried to compliment one I needed to get close to for a dare, and it backfired."

"A dare? Who gave you that dare? And how hard is it to compliment one?" Coal asks in disbelief.
"Mum dared fifteen year old me to get close to one, after noticing I was becoming interested in girls. She told me to find something I like most about them and compliment them, and keep in mind I was homeschooled so they might as well have been aliens from another planet."

Giggles erupt from mother as she tries to speak. "How was.. I supposed to know.. you would fail.. so badly?" She rasps out unable to contain herself.
"What did you say?" Coal asks reigning in his laughter. I take a deep breath reading myself for further humiliation as my mother goes to answer.
"He said something along the lines of.. you smell like seaweed from the ocean and I want to.. I want to touch your soft curves." That was it, both of them had lost it again.

"Seaweed?" Coal rasped with tears streaming down his face.

"Yeah yeah.." I grumble feeling my cheeks turning scarlet. "She throat punched me after that. How was I to know she was anorexic and paranoid about her non existent soft curves? I was talking about her boobs but knew not to use that word." I groan watching the two of them struggle to breath between laughter. "It was also in front of an ice cream shop and her friend no doubt took hours to convince her to grab one. A few wrong words from me had her and her friend storming away. It's why I turned to spells and potions, I thought they were more my friend, but I was wrong." I shrug allowing a smirk to cross my face. It was hard not to smile even when their laughter was at my expense.

As the conversation changed to family, I could see the longing in Coals eyes, and the apologetic look my mother flashed his way. He missed his people, his family, yet hardly spoke of them. It was too painful for him most days.

He carries the weight of a world on his shoulders, literally, but most of what weighs him down is his own self doubt. The goddess told him that he needed to urn the Luna of Moonlight pack's favour, and only then will she be able to grant him some of her magic. Luna Alexa however, insists she couldn't share her magic with him which left him stumped and confused with what path to take the next.

"Earth to Viren.." Coals voice draws me from my thoughts. "Your phone went off." He said pointing to the phone in my hand that I had just turned on. I hadn't even spared it a glance having forgotten to turn it on after dinner last night.

3:00am Serg – Thanks for tonight, see you tomorrow at noon.
3:30am Alpha Jeff – Viren, I had to lock Jaycee and a few others in the execution cells this morning. She broke into Renalda's room, broke a half formed mate bond, and stole things she shouldn't have touched. Don't worry I haven't sentenced her yet, knowing you would want a say in it, but I also needed to act being the Alpha. I thought you would want to know.
A mixture of emotions flooded me. What started as rage, turned to relief, before dread held me in its death grip. The rage because she was sitting in his execution cell, relief that he had chosen to notify and wait for me, but dread when I read she had broken a half formed mate bond. Was it ours? Should I feel any different.
Coal took the phone off me noticing my internal battle. He gasped in shock as he no doubt made the same connections I did.
