Coals POV:Salvator took off in another direction with Alexa and Jet. The rest of us continued on towards the camp with nothing more than moonlight to guide us on our way.
Many of the warriors were injured and had broken bones, torn ligaments, large gashes and bite wounds but nothing deadly. We moved at a slow pace with many limping but the hybrids that were mostly unharmed helped many support their weight.
At one stage a handful of rogues had tried sneaking up on us. Unfortunately for them Zanders senses picked them up before they even knew we were there. I watched as he shifted into his large wolf, only this time he looked different. His body consisted of black shadows which allowed him to conceal himself under the tall trees, in shrubs and anywhere untouched by the moonlight. My eyes widened as he used this ability to sneak up on his enemies one by one. He was silent striking with deadly blows, leaving most member of our group unaware of the threat.
As he shifted back Ed threw him his pants and walked back towards the front of the group."So mind telling me how I can get myself a shadow wolf?" I say to Zander as he falls into step with me.
"Well you need to be mated to the most powerful witch wolf hybrid in the world, who also happens to be the goddesses descendant."
"Hmm sounds easy then." I reply, smirking when Zander laughs."Don't cut yourself short, Alexa and I can feel your power. You're smart, observant, caring and as fast as Alexa and I are, which is nothing to be ignored. She mind linked me earlier telling me you're also a shape shifter. Said something about punching you in the face."
I nod. "Yes well I'm also a massive target. Might as well have a sign on my back that says everyone be afraid and attack me."
Zander snorts "I'm sure your not that big. It's not like your as big as a house." When I don't reply he continues. "Are you?"
I look his way. "Well that depends what type of house? Like a small granny flat or a pack house? If you're referring to the pack house, yes I'm around that size."
Zander stumbles in surprise as he turns to look at me with wide eyes. After a few seconds of analysing me he speaks. "What.. are you exactly?"
"As you know, I"m a creature not from this world. I am two of many types of dragons. My father is from a shapeshifter village, and my mother was from a fire breathing village though she had a rare ability, she was an oracle. Extremely rare for us dragons."
Zander fell into step quite easily after that and asked all sorts of questions about my past and the world I call from.
Once we arrived at the village Viren's mother Magista began helping the wounded along with some of the others from Alexa's pack. Ella stood handing her various herbs and ingredients as she began mixing potions and creative sedatives to help with pain.
Magista sent me a few worried glances when she noticed her son wasn't with me but a smile and a wink seemed to be enough to temporarily put her mind at ease. There was no point worrying her while she needed to focus on the others, especially when I didn't know what Viren was up to. One thing I did know is he could handle his own, especially when accompanied by Alexa and Jet.
I found myself setting up a few tents with Zander and Ed, doing our best to cater for the added members, when a bright blue net made of light and water slid into the camp carrying a very unconsciousness Jaycee and Salvator. The gasp Magista let out was soon followed by a glare as she looked my way. I gave her a sympathetic smile before the three of us boys lifted them and placed them into their own tents.
"Coal, a smile and a wink is meant to mean don't worry!" Viren's mother hissed low enough for only me to hear. "Not expecting my son to arrive into camp half dead!" Tears gathered in her eyes making my heart sink. There was something about this woman that had me remembering my mother. before I could comprehend my movements I had pulled her into a hug. She froze breefly before returning the gesture.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to worry you. I didn't actually know why he detoured, obviously it was to save Jaycee.""Actually it was to save Jaycee and I." Sadie corrected, making Jet grumble under his breath as they headed our way. He made a point to walk at least a meter in front of Sadie at all times, who can didn't go unitised but her.
"Last I checked princess, I was the one who saved you. Don't worry though I won't be making that mistake twice." He said strolling off into an unoccupied tent.
Sadlie did her best to hold in a smirk. She was enjoying getting under his skin. I shook my head bringing my attention back to Salvator as Alexa approached.
"I can't heal him as no one has that ability, but I have managed to stop the bleeding. I believe he has a cracked skull and the wound on his ribs should take at least a day to heal."I didn't bother asking how she knew about the extent of his injuries considering he is still covered head to toe in leather, as I knew not to underestimate the Luna. She had mentioned before her gut instincts werr never wrong.
The suns rays began to peek out from the horizon when I heard a commotion coming from Jaycee's tent. I hadn't missed the fact that Layla's intoxicating scent was also coming from that direction but I needed to stay away from her. It's not like I can afford to get close to her only to leave her world when the time is right.
"Fuck!" I hear Zander curse. I look in his direction and gasped as he punches Ed in the face knocking him out. Jet then does the same to a handful of unmated wolves as they approach Jaycee's tent.
"She's in heat." Sadie says beside me before heading in that direction. Kat and a few of the others follow.
"I'll stand guard Zander, go spend time with your daughter and wife." I say and he gives me a grateful nod.
Time passes slowly. The sweet melody of the forest relaxes me, and I only now realise how tired I am. After a few hours standing guard I startle when I catch yelling. Zander stormed out from the tent with Jet hot on his heals, and I watch as he phases and disappears into the shadows.
"I won't let this go unpunished! I wish Viren so much pain, he will suffer as much as you are suffering, and I prey to the moon goddess his guilt eats him alive." Alexa's words were full of pain, but they had my throat going dry.A flash of blue light flashes past me and races into Salvator's tent. My eyes widened when I realise Alexa's magic was headed straight for him. Salvator was already in bad shape, and I had no idea what would happen to him now.
I call over a mated warrior, asking him to take over watch. I get four steps away from the tent before the most amazing scent washes over me. Crisp apple and cinnamon, the smell so close to a baked apple pie.
"ooff." The air is knocked out of my lungs as someone crashes into me. She stumbles after hitting me, and looses her balance. I reach for her before she hits the ground, using her momentum to spin her into my arms. My breathing hitches as my eyes connect with her bright green orbs. Tears are running down her cheeks making a pant of sorrow fill me. Her beautiful black hair falls towards the floor as her eyes glow with the eyes of her wolf.
"Mate." She growls and its then I notice the addictive sparks warming me up everywhere our skin touched.
A startled gasp breaks our trance and I place Layla back onto steady feet. Sadie had run after her, and rather than wait and see what has her so worked up I do the cowardly thing. I run.———-
